Talking 2014 1LE or 2012 ZL1

Greetings. My first post and I have a delimma. Need input... Trying to decide between new 2014 1LE or a lightly used 2012/13 ZL1. Not sure what the new LE will offer in colors and options. I figured the ZL1 will drop about 10% or as high as 15% compared to new. At first , wanted a Gen 1 Camaro( love the RAW power without the Smog choking , Fed/Cal modern day restrictions) , but modern Gen 5 has so much more to offer. For the 1LE owners, ZL1 , and previous Gen1 owners, please comment and advise a future Camaro owner. thanks.

I have been going through this same thing in my head. My answer has been a ZL1 if I can afford it. The issue being that I don't think I can and used ZL1 pricing is still too high for my budget. So a 1LE is perfect for me and I can add mods to it later. OK, I will add mods to it later.

So I will order a 2014 1LE in June and if ZL1 pricing changes my dealer (who is the best) said he will just sell my order so I can get the ZL1.

In one model year you will hardly ever see more than a 2-3% price increase. I don't expect to see any price decrease.

I seen a few ZL1s going for less than 47k dont know how much of a percentage drop that is but I would say its more than or close 5%

I have yet to see any priced under 48k, and the only one for 48k had a branded title.
Most are pricing 52k and up - including the GM one-owner pre production cars.

to Camaro5 If you want a comfortable DD, your best option would be the used ZL1 if it is within your budget. If you're planning on tracking the car, the 1LE would be the more affordable model to go with, as expenses rise with doing so. Good luck in your search. If you go with the 1LE, I would definitely opt for the Recaro seats just for the cool factor

I think it depends on the ZL1 you find used. So, the "right" used ZL1 over a new 1LE is my opinion. You can do pro's and con's, but for me.. ZL1 is my winner..... EDIT >>>> It took me a minute to realize the question involved a 2014 1LE (silly me) I don't like the look of the "updated" version yet. So, I guess my answer is still the ZL1...unless you get a new 2013 1LE =)

I've been debating this since I seen the 2014 models at the NYIAS
...
I decided to wait for a 2014 1LE, but if I can find a new ZL1 (and only new) for no more than 50K; ill get the ZL1 in a heartbeat. Don't know if threats possible or not
...
Other than that, ill deal with my ugly taillights and not so special hood extractor on the 2014 1LE.

Good luck with a $50,000 ZL1.

I'm going to pull the trigger on a '13 1LE as a "poor man's" ZL1 since I just can't quite afford the ZL1. The 1LE that I test drove definitely pulls a lot harder than my '11 2SS. And, everything else about the 1LE makes me wonder why GM didn't produce every SS like this in the first place! Awesome!!! ZL1 who?!

I know it's far more than a stretch
...
But it's ok to dream, I think the cheapest I ever saw at a dealership was just over 55K
...
I couldn't comfortably afford a 800$ note after putting down a few thousand, which is what a ZL1 would be for me. It's very possible, but just isn't smart especially if you have family & mortgage etc.
...
Like someone said earlier, maybe the poor mans ZL1 is just whats best for me

Thanks for the responses. Decided to choose the 2013 1LE route, unless I find a lightly used ZL1. Knowing that this 2013 1LE is the first and last year w.r.t. front and rear fascia... Rather prefer the 4 separate rear lights as oppose to the 2014 setup. Will the 2014 ZL1 rear lights be changed as well? Luv to have a ZL1 , but another 10K to 15k is a bit over the limit for a new one.

I'd get a 2014 1LE. It just looks better to me PLUS you can get the recaro's. For the money the 2014 is a home run. Idk how easy it will be to retro fit those recaro's into earlier model years. In the V series it is extremly difficult and just not worth it.

There are some members selling there 500-1000 mile ZL1 for $49k. Great price, IMO.
