First Ford GT

Thought this was interesting:

http://autos.yahoo.com/blogs/motoram...140347636.html

Especially the top speed of this prototype - not going to win many races with this.

So ford basically cut the balls off the car how touching to castrate it. Here's your car and oh it only goes 5mph cause its not street legal. That doesn't make sense at all since copo Camaro's aren't street legal either. Id be kinda pissed if it was my car.

If he wanted to, he could make that car go well over 5 mph.

That was an interesting read for sure.

Doesn't sound like it would be hard to free that car up, but the owner wants it all original for obvious purposes.

Plus, he has other GT's to drive around and go 'fast' in.

Thanks for posting, great read!

Only two posts in and we already have the, "I didn't read the article, but I'm going to comment anyway" guy. He bought a prototype. If I am not mistaken, this is the same Joe:

The Ford GT is my all time favorite car in the looks department. Wish they'd bring it back as a Corvette fighter.

I've always liked the Ford GT. Imagine if this car had the '13+ GT500 5.8 engine from the factory! The Ford GT "only" had the 5.4, which was rated at 550hp. I know people like to modify these cars to get 600+hp but the Ford GT would've been even more impressive if it had the 5.8 (662 hp) stock.

Early prototypes are usually cobbled together piles of junk thrown together as a proof of concept more than anything else. Push them too hard and they can literally come apart at the seams. Neither Ford nor any other automaker is very keen on the legal ramifications that could come from selling a car that may very well fail catastrophically if driven at speed.

Only if the 5.8L came with the FGT's forged H beam connecting rods and Lysholm twin screw supercharger with 16 fuel injectors.

As others have said, Joey is well known in the GT community. He did not buy the car to drive. It should be noted that values for used GT's continue to climb like no other. They have pretty much reached a point that eliminates hope of ever getting one. Welll north of $200k for a clean low mile example.

The new 5.8 setup right out of the Shelby, plus some modern R compound/ cup tires and you'd have yourself something closing in on zr-1 performance.

This was bizarre. Who would pay a king's ransom for a car that goes 5 mph? These are indeed interesting times in which we live.
