I heard that the 2014 HUD is different from the 2011? How true is this, and will it be available to add on my 2010?

also I'm in need of a new windshield, do I need any specific one?

Don't know about add on. But the 14 hud is great . Color with g force meter with shift indicator for auto in tap shift.

Yes you need a specific windshield for the HUD. When you order they will order based off the VIN. they will ask if it has HUD and Auto start. Just did this with the wifes car. However, the three windshields we received did not match exactly like the stock one. Even got insurance to pay for OEM thru Chevy dealer and both of those did not match exactly. The difference was the black trim around the outside and behind the rear view morror. The original is just dots. The ones they sent is solid black. The wife is very picky but she got tired of ordering and getting wrong one so we just put in the last one they sent.
