Who has geared their V6?
What gear did you put in them, and how do you like it?
Do you wish you had gone with more, less or did you get it just right? |

Working on a 3:91 SS diff into 2012 V6 auto for a another member. Should wake it up big time. Project is probably 6 to 8 weeks from completion though. Just in the collecting parts and having diff built. DSS to supply Axels and Driveshaft.

We have had many V6 customers go with 3.73. There should be no shortage of feedback.

So, I don't know if I've done this math right, so please correct me if I'm wrong on this.
Peak torque on the SS is 420 ft-lbs. 1st gear is 3.01 and final drive is 3.45. Overall reduction in 1st gear is 10.38, and max torque at the rear wheels assuming no drive train loss, is 4361 ft-lbs. Peak torque on the V6 is 273 ft-lbs. 1st gear is 4.48, and final drive is 3.27. Overall reduction is 14.65. max torque at rear wheels is thus 3999.34 ft-lbs. If you go up to a 3.73 gears, overall reduction then becomes 16.7 for 4561 ft-lbs. 3.91 gears becomes 17.52 for 4782 ft-lbs. Either gear set puts you at more rear-torque than is available with the S.S. ... Now, did I do my math wrong here? Or is 'peak push you back in your seat' in first gear only different between the two models by 9%?

I am planning on doing a 1LE diff/axle/hub/kitchen sink swap into my Camaro V6 to get the 3.91 gears, but from my experience on doing the Mustang V6 auto from 2.73's to 3.73's, I feel that 3.73 to 3.91's are great on an Auto. First gear is still usable and the car accelerates like its meant to. I want the 3.91's in the Camaro since its a little heavier than the Mustang. Gas mileage went down maybe 2 on the highway so it was a good trade-off.

I guess, I should also add, that I plan on going to the stock v8 diff, so that any of the 'regular' gear sets are an option.

I have 3.73 in my 2010 RS. I do not use 1st gear alot and I am happy with the performance. I still get almost 30 mpg...very happy with the gear.
