TINTING ISSUES
hey all so i have had my 2SS/vert for 3 months now got the windows tinted about a 2 months ago by a good friend who owns a high end car/audio business. got my windows done it looked amazing, he told me not to put down the windowns for 3 days so i listened and did not. about 2 weeks later the bottom left corner of the tint on both front windows started to peel up reason being is when you open the door on the vert the window drops down then back up when you close it to lock into place when door is closed. anyway i brought it back he redid them about a week ago, and its happening again. is there something he is missing? he said he has done many convertible cars before and never had this issue. does anyone know any tricks? is there a special window tinting process so this does not happen? every time i put the window down the tint crinkles and makes a noise and its driving me crazy plus looks like shit when you notice it. any help is greatly appreciated

My vert has been tinted since new with no issues. Is he tucking the tint down below the sweeper seal at the top of the door? If so, I would recommend trying a different brand tint as I havent heard of this issue before.

As long as they take into account the window indexing and use a quality film you should not have this problem. If it is not both windows then just have him do it again, sometimes $h!t happens. If it is both, then I would go elsewhere and have it done!

All Camaro windows drop down with opening the door. sounds like the installer cut the tint to short and it is catching.
This is not typical because tons of us have tint and do not have this problem.

All camaros are like that. Never had any problems though. Get it tinted from a different shop...that might solve your problem.

The problem is you're not leaving it to dry completely. To apply tint, you use soapy water liberally to allow all the air bubbles and such to be removed as well as final positioning to be done without the tint sticking to the glass. This needs to dry before any real stress is put on it. You need to leave the tint be without opening the windows for at least a couple days, probably longer in this cold weather in the northeast this time of year.
What I've heard before that you can do with indexing windows is open both doors and pull the power window fuse while they are down slightly. This will cause an issue with sealing, but allow you to use your car without fear of the tint peeling off from not being fully adhered. |

I have had 4 cars tinted at the Tulsa franchise of Alta Mere. One of those 4 was the Camaro vert. They used a 10% ProShield brand tint film. I asked about the indexing windows and he said that he was used to them and that he took extra care to dry it with a heat gun. 1.5 months with no issues. Looks great.

OP, The problem is probably the indexing.
Your installer put the tint below the window sweeper while the window was indexed down. He just did not put it low enough on the window and when the window is up and sealed the tint just comes to the top of the sweeper. Then when you roll the window down it catches and pulls it lose. He needs to put the tint on further down the window, or have the window all the way up when it is applied. Try sitting in the car with the window up. Now pull back the sweeper and see how far the tint goes down the window. I have had mine on for over a year and it still looks perfect. Just putting my guess into the mix.

When I got my tint installed, they made sure to dry up the bottom edges as good as they could to get me home. After that my car sat untouched for a week and came out well.
Sent from the road.

I would trll him remove the door pad. Next take screw diver or some thing similar move the striker to the closed position this cause the window to index back to the closed position. He can now get the film well below the door frame. That what was done to mine and I did not wait 3 days. They had a bank of heat lamps and dried it out in a couple of hours. Mine was done about 11/2 years ago.
