Quoted 400 to replace 2LT rear brakes

Took my 2010 2LT to the dealership for maintenance and was told my rear brakes need to be replaced.

He said it would cost 400 because they are "special camaro brakes". Does the camaro have special brakes? I know the SS has brembo brakes but didn't think the v6 had anything special.

I'm not all that knowledgable about that stuff, so just making sure the 400 is a good/reasonable price to replace the rear brakes.

"Special Camaro Brakes"? What are they saying needs replacing? The pads or rotors or both?

...someone should tell Cadillac that those rear 'special Camaro brakes' aren't for the CTS, and that they should go and find their own!

If it's just a daily driver, Rockauto has the Raybestos Advanced rotors for $41 a piece and pads for $42. $130 to do it yourself.

I bought a set of Hawke pads and had a local shop do the install for $150.00, including turning the rotors. $400 seems really, really high for just two of four wheels.

...and why are they replacing the rear brakes? Did you notice something was wrong with them? Warped, squeaking, worn pads?

Have the fronts beer replaced yet? Find it odd that the rears would go before the fronts.

Make sure the service actually needs done before you go spending money on it.

+1

Ask them what's being replaced for $400.

Better have them throw in some "seasonal" tire air for that price.

2 hours labor to turn rotors $220 + $100-150 plus tax for oem pads +$30 for shop supplies. Puts you at $350-$400

2 hours labor to turn two rotors?

The V6 rear brakes are maybe $80 from a dealer too.

Yessir2 hours. If they're going to lose the job you MAY be able to get them to do it for 1.5 but good luck. You may be able to get the cheapest pads for 80 but there is usually 3 levels of pads, good better and best. They're not going to quote you for the cheap pads...

If he's replacing the pads with OEM pads, there's only one part number for them.

$325.53 to upgrade to the Granatelli rear rotors and the EBC redstuff pads on my SS. $400 is ridiculous.
