Buying a used 2008 Silverado 2500 HD, need some help

Hey all, So I put a deposit down on a 2008 Silverado 2500 HD to replace my 96 GMC 2500, Carfax is clean and actually shows some detail on repairs that were done. I was wondering if anyone has access to a Chevy dealer system and car run the VIN for me there to see what warranty and recall work if any was done on it. Thanks!

If its not a diesel then I would skip it as there is a reason why 80% of HD pick-up trucks have them. I'm guessing you could find a HD diesel 4x4 for the same price if you look around.

I flew to Texas for my used HD diesel because it was $10k cheaper then local prices. It was 3 years old at the time with 39k miles on the clock. It probably wouldn't even depreciate because all my friends sell their used diesels for what they paid for them 5+ years later. My truck is still worth $25k vs $5k if it was a gasser.

I already bought it actually. While I was looking at diesels, I wanted something I can work on myself and I'm very familiar with these engines. I think your assertion that 80% are diesel is a bit excessive, I have been looking for months now and its less than 50%. The price differential is definitely nowhere near what you mentioned, I found the diesels were worth a bit more than their gas counterparts but usually it was $4-5k on the equivalent truck. I could have gotten an older Diesel with about 100k more miles for what I paid, but I really got a good deal and would rather have the newer better design truck and a motor I know how to work on.

OK 80% was a bit excessive but I know that its in the 70's for HD Rams and 67% on Ford SuperDuty. You probably saw less then a 50/50 ratio because a HD gas owners are more prone to selling then diesel owners for obvious reasons.

Awesome thanks so much. I was hoping to get any dealer service history if available? Unless the PO maybe never used the dealer for warranty service which I guess is possible....

Yeah maybe. Either way I'm sure the gas motor will hold up fine for me, I only do about 5 or 6 tows a year. Otherwise I just use it for snow driving and if i need to move junk or do some scrap metal runs for extra cash.
