What is this bit for?

I've seen it on some and not others. Is it a bonnet vent of some sort?

Thanks
Bluey

Yes but non functional to my knowledge.

Don't take my word for it, but it is on all V8 models, and absent on V6 models (with exception of 2014 models of course - neither have it).
