Dealer says: Aftermarket sunroof is available?

I was looking at a new 2014 (I know, I still dislike the taillights but they are growing on me) and found a 1SS for $31k that I really like. The only thing is, it doesn't have a sunroof. But I also noticed the transmission type was wrong - they had it listed as an automatic when the pictures showed a stick. So I wrote them an email. It is a stick, but no sunroof. The dealer said I could add an aftermarket sunroof - I'm thinking WTF? Really?

Has anyone heard of that?

I have heard of a few companies that do offer aftermarket sunroofs. I would be worried that it was a general application and not one designed specifically for this car.
Personally I'd rather not have a sunroof, but that's just me

They'll tell you that so they can sell the car. I personally wouldn't put one in that wasn't factory. Most cars are designed differently when they have different roof options. Just find one with what you want.

Yeah they do have them. However, I'd be skeptical of adding an aftermarket one with they are offered from the factory.

There is aftermarket sunroof but not sure if they still make them and how reliable they are with build quality. I remember this thread from when I bought my camaro years ago.

Find a 2013 2ss/rs with a sunroof. Shouldn't be hard to find for $31k

yep, Chrysler back in the day on the Charger/Challenger didn't even install they're own sun roofs. They sent them to a third party to have them installed.

I would suggest not going that route though like the others have said. I'm not sure whether you can do a electric sun roof aftermarket or not, it certainly won't be as good as factory.

If you want a sunroof buy one with a sunroof. I personally wouldn't get an aftermarket one. You will pay a lot to have it done and the chances of it looking and functioning good are slim.

My mom has a 2013 chevy equinox that the dealership installed an aftermarket sunroof on and they made it look and perform just like the stock one

If you were buying some niche car and you could only find this ONE car THAT way, then add an aftermarket sunroof if you must. But these cars are all over the place and can be ordered the way you like. Find one factory is my opinion.

Thanks for the responses. Actually, it's harder than I thought to find a new Camaro with a sunroof. All of the ones I've looked at today don't have it listed under the installed equipment. I thought maybe I was looking in the wrong place, but don't see it listed anywhere. I can't imagine why they would have so few with sunroof(v?)s?

I wanted a sunroof in mine, so I turned down several good deals on non-sunroof cars to get one with a sunroof, including having to buy an auto L99 car with a sunroof instead of what I really wanted: LS3/M6.

If you have ever seen a thread showing how to remove or repair a factory-type sunroof (self-contained in a pan mounted to the roof underside, above the headliner, with drain tubes running down the A and B pillars), and how much of the car you have to take apart to remove or install it, it can be difficult for professionals... I could NOT imagine turning my brand new car over to anyone other than the factory to do this. JM2C worth.

I'm assuming the 2014 is just like the roof of all 5th gens. The cars w/o a sunroof stock have a indented roof in the center. The roofs of the stock sunroof cars are flat, for the sunroof. This would make it fairly difficult to put a sunroof in afterwards. My own personal opinion is, I wouldn't put an aftermarket one in.
