thoughts on gears?

So some of you may know i was set on getting a 2014 1ls but my dealer has my two fav colors in stock and they're 2ls autos. and the only 1LS they have in stock is that new magenta color......anywayyyyyyy, can anyone refresh me on what rear gear the 14 2LS? and is the richmond 3.55 still the best option for autos not wanting to do a ss rear swap?

Anything I can do to convince you to get an SS? New 2013's are going for under 30k at the dealer.

believe me man i wish. I'm 22 and in college been saving for this down payment and will be paying the note myself. I COULD get an ss if i worked full time butttttt you know blah blah blah get a degree and stuff. so I'm going with the v6. i did consider a 2010-12 used ss but it makes more sense where im at right now to get something with a warranty until i finish school. Then hopefully i can get a Zl1 or a slightly used c7 z51.Sorry i tend to ramble! any thoughts on the gears fellas?

I actually read today that the 2LS has a 2.92 screw and the carrier is too small to fit upgraded gears like an aftermarket 3.55.

Here's a link to the thread:

Gm offers 3.91 gears w/ factory warranty. Don't know if it'll fit v6 though. This way you keep your warranty.

The 2LS uses the 7.6" center section with 2.92 gears. If you buy the 2LS you will not be able to use any GM gear sets without buying an 8.6" center section. This is costly.

If you buy the 1LS w/manual transmission you will have the 8.6" rear end w/3.27 gears and will be able to swap in GM gear sets. This is comparatively less costly.

Listen to this guy. Save yourself time, aggravation, and money. Just get a 1LS. If your dealer won't take the time to locate one for you, then find a dealer who will. There are plenty out there.

go with the manual V6 LT - same rear as the SS - lower gears (3.23 vs 3.45) but same rear. Don't get auto.

1LS has the same rear end as the SS's. The gearing in the V6 manual is 3.27 (at least according to the wiki). Auto SS has a 3.27:1 as well. Only the manual SS has the lower 3.45:1 gearing.

To further help the OP: it cost me a little over 3 grand for gear swap in my 2LS that would normally only cost around $1000.
