Detailed the VW

Hey everyone, I decided to bust out the Griots today and detail the hood of my VW since the hood looked terrible. About 2 years ago before I had any knowledge on these machines I tried to compound by hand but only made the hood look worse. I'm impressed by what the polisher can do but there is still some fine scratches in the paint. My setup was Meguiar's Ultimate Compound along with their 6" microfiber pad and finished with the Ultimate Polish. Perhaps I should purchase some M105 to diminish the small scratches or CCS pads?

I agreed with Todd, looks super your side by side of the hood. You might want to go over again with the same technique you use to see if you can remove some of the fine scratch/swirls that didn't come off your first pass. Remember some VW paints ( years ) are hard as nails when it come to refine the paint so keep it up and hope to see your work when it's finish.....remember to post more shots.....

That does look good. Instead of working yourself to death with UC and UP, you might consider going with a product that's more aggressive. M105 and 205 would work if you can find it local. If you're going to order something, it's hard to beat Menzerna FG400. Cuts great and finishes very well, all in one product. If you want to polishes it afterwards, the UP would do fine with that, since you already have it.

Thanks for your opinions =D I will probably place an order for the M105 along with the 205. Should my microfiber pad work well with the M105 or should I purchase some foam pads?

Microfiber will work fine with m105.

Ordering both will cost you in the $60 range. A bottle of FG-400 is $34 and it can be a one step process. If you REALLY want to use M105, then only get it. You're just throwing money away getting the 205 since you already have bottles of UC and UP. Either would be fine to polish down M105. If you only have one MF pad, you might consider getting another, or two. Makes the whole process move along MUCH quicker.

Polishing with FG400 is a little different than what you've used before. It has a longer work or flash time, which is one reason why you can finish with it as well. Just ease up on the pressure towards the end of the process and it will act more like a finer polish. Experiment with it to see what works best for you but you'll be amazed at how fast it corrects, compared to what you currently have.

Thanks for the insight axis I will definitely follow your advice. Hopefully I can get this paint to come out to perfection or atleast close to it.
