Supercharged L99 on stock tires
Well, sitting around talking cars with friends and we got to talking about the optimal horsepower for the Camaro SS particularly with stock tires. I know the stock answer will be you can never have too much horsepower. But really, if you keep the stock tires at what point do you have too much? With the mods on my 2013 L99 I put down 371 HP and 389 lb/ft. I have been toying with the idea of a SLP supercharger but I don't want to do it if I am just going to spin around everywhere. Case in point, I see a lot of ZL1 drivers on Youtube doing 12.4 - 12.6 1/4 miles and they have 580 HP. I see guys doing that with a modded Camaro SS just like mine so what's the point?
Any thoughts? |

I think it depends how you drive, I run stock tires so far with approx 600 rwhp & you can make these things skid nearly forever, depending on your bank a/c. I have tried stock tires on 1/4 mile & best I can do is 12.3 @120 mph, but traction in 1st 2nd & third is major issue, better gripping tires are a must if you want to utilize this power down low, but impressing people with loss of traction while cruising at 50 mph is fun.

If your talking mostly street tires. I would go with a centrifugal supercharger. Like a Vortech V3. Will give ya a bit more power at very low rpm that way you do not blow the tires off like a top mount PD will do. But will give you a ton of power as the car starts moving , very linear predictable power.
Vortech V3 kit( 67 lbs injectors other kits have 52s , 10 rib belt set up, and a HUGE 1000HP intercooler ) ZL1 fule pump( cheap insurance) needed if going with a smaller pully. 3.47 pully or a 3.33 ( 8-10 psi boost) Car will be considerably quicker then you are most people think. Car will drive stock but will run high 11s and if ya like smoke the tires at 50. I had LT headers and put down 624rwhp with a M6. Now with the 3.47 pully and a smaller cam it put down 704 rwhp. |

I guess for me, I just have to decided if I want a supercharged car as a daily driver or if I should just enjoy what I have. |

[QUOT more funE=Dan2013;7760292]That's the kind of real world example I am interested in. Thanks.

There is a night and day difference between the way my car was before and now after supercharging. on the street my car would destroy the way my car was before. It is much much faster.

If you plan on going to the track after getting supercharged, you need to at least run some 20" drag radials.
Better solution would be to get a set of 18" wheels with some MT for track days. Otherwise you'll have a pretty frustation day at the track. With NT555R (20" Drag Radials) and bolt ons, I beat a guy with a Whipple Supercharger claiming 600+hp running street tires. His times were pretty slow all day, but he had real fast trap speeds. With a proper wheel/tire setup his car would most likely have been running in the 10s. |

I had 444 with cam, headers, intake, and tune. No issues on stock tires. When I added the Whipple and went to 630ish at the rear wheels, the stock tires were completely and totally useless.
I run Vred 315s now and they are much better.
