Engine Knock

I have 1100 miles on my 14 Zl1. I've run nothing but 93 Premium and I still get crazy engine knock under hard acceleration. It has seemed to get worse. I usually run Shell gas btw. Just wondering what was up or if it's normal.

Thanks.

I always fill 93 in my '14 ZL1 and I don't experience what you're saying. I also filled up in Katy last week visiting friends. Get HPtuners and log a couple WOT pulls.

I get engine knock with shell almost always. Not sure why as I always thought shell 93 would be great. Since then I've been using chevron exclusively with no issues. I've been hesitant to try other places.

Get a bottle of torco and see if that helps with the issue at all. It always helps when I run into that issue.

Other thing, since your in TX, hit up a local shop and see if they can help with a data log and check something else is causing it.

There are several gas stations in the Houston area that have been busted for selling lower octane than advertised; one even tested lower out of the 93 pump than out of the 87 pump.

I have bought 94 from a Shell station in north TX, it acted like 91. I say that because I have run lots of 91 and good 93.

Indeed, Shell is known to have very poor performance in other forced induction communities like Subaru STI, EvoX, etc. Unfortunately, the fact that it has got quality detergents does not mean it has high octane.

Bring it to the dealer and get it checked under warranty. Something isn't right.

Ditto. Even if you get some bad gas the PCM will adjust and you won't hear any audible knock. Something is wrong. Unless you have had it tuned and they turned off knock retard. Either way you'll damage you engine if you keep rattling the pistons like that.

No tune, just a CAI. I'll get it in to the service dept. Thanks for the answers guys.

Which CAI? Did the problem start when you installed that? You may have leaned out the AFR so much it is knocking. May as well put the stock one back on because that is the first thing the dealer will want to do.

RotoFab. And no, not right away. I put the RotoFab on at about 500 miles. Btw, I have 1800 miles. Not 1100 as stated above. Shoot, my mileage is getting up there. haha. It started prob about 2 tanks ago. It seems to be bad once motor is nice and toasty. Got on it this morning on the way to drop my son to school and no knock. I'm going to try Chevron premium with an enhancer and if it's still doing that, off to service. But I hear what you are saying. Btw, I haven't put anything in the car but 93 Octane. (Well, according to Shell it's 93). But like said above, it could be Shell. And here I thought Shell was one of the top brands.

This has fixed other cars in the past. The computer gets latched on to a lower octane fuel map if/ when lower octane fuel is used. Reset these two fuses after you have fuel you know to be good in the tank.
