Auxiliary Low Profile USB Charger

So I just picked up two of these low profile auxiliary chargers. I like the hidden aspect of the 2014 Camaro's aux power port, but the USB sticking out all the time would drive me nuts.

I eyeballed it as best I could, and there is about 2-3mm free under the cover.

These just might do the trick!

I'll post pictures once I get it, and how it turned out.

So If I understand correctly, you want this to fit inside the power port and the door can still close? What about if you need to remove it?

I wouldn't need to, I use my phone as a GPS and thats the only thing I would need to plug in. I do see what you saying it would be a pain in the ass to remove if I did have to change it. I keep everything simple

What happens is the fuse in the adapter goes? Your going to need a way to remove it. Maybe tie a piece of fish like around it so you can remove. I'm not knocking it, I think it's a good idea, but you should have a way to pull it out

I use these type of USB chargers in my cars. They're pretty easy to remove when you need to.

Have you ever used one in an application where it fit completely into the socket ? I think it would be great to use just afraid of not being able to remove it.

Its pretty easy to remove. You can pry it up with you fingernail around the top flange. Or just grab the plugged in end of the USB cable, then slightly twist and pull up at the same time.

I have one. It does NOT allow the lid to fully close.

Other issue, it's not very high voltage. It'll power something that doesn't require much power, but most high end Android phones and anything from Apple won't charge with it.

Different brands have different charging amperages. A lot are only one amp, while some are 2.1 and more. I have a Belkin that is 2.1amps and a noname brand I found at Frys Electronics that is 3.2 amps. Both charge my Note 2 pretty good.

Well that's a bust. Would have been nice if they put a usb port right there with a little door. Maybe the 6th gen.

Just get a little creative. I'm sure you could come up with something. Maybe remove the 12V outlet and mount a USB port from below.

Now you got me thinking. Thanks, like I needed another project.
