First Speeding Ticket in Over 20 Years - Florida State Trooper
I'm pretty upset with myself for getting my first speeding ticket in over 20 years. Wife and I were coming from Orlando on our way to Panama City Beach.. On I-75 North just passing through Gainesville. Here is a situation that you can be right and you can still learn a lesson. I'm in the middle lane doing 70.. A raised pick up truck came from the slow lane on my right but there was a another car there so he got over on me!! Luckily the fast lane was open because I moved into it to keep him from hitting me. Why didn't he pass on the left? Anyway I sped up to get back into the middle lane. So did he. I went faster and go into the middle. Minutes down the road were a group of state troopers. They pulled us both over and many other cars. They said the plane clocked us at 87. Never heard of that before!! Totally my fault!! I let someone else take me out of what I normally do. I'm pissed at myself!! Sometimes even us older cats do stupid sh*t too!!' $254.00 lesson learned for me!!

so i know all the tards will come out and say just dont speed but.....
get a decent radar detector, costs the same or less than your ticket and even though you got pinched by the plane it most likley would of picked up the troopers down the highway. and remember good judgment comes from bad decisions! it sucks but a ticket is not the end of the world. only reason to be upset is now you cant come up with a cover story to tell the wife!

Those planes make the cat&mouse game less fun. Sorry about your ticket but its definitely just a silly mistake. Gotta watch out for those lifted trucks, the like to think that beause they are taller they can just do what they want.

i just like to decelerate slowly when i get those lifted truck tailgaiters. Mind you this is when i'm in the middle or right lane on a highway if i'm in the left lane and your coming up on me like that i just leave my cruise control on no reason to be going faster then 75MPH in a 65 unless your just being a jackass.

I hate that you got a ticket, but this line confused me. Where were you in the right. You were going faster than you should have been (by your own admission). If you had moved over to the right lane, and simply maintained your speed, none of this would have happened. |

That stretch of Florida is trooper alley. Some of the state roads out in Bumfug, FL have a different speed limit every mile.

Left lane is for passing. Yeah, you can be passing at 75mph, but if someone wants to pass you, and you are not allowing them to pass on the left bc you feel the need to dictate their speed, your obligation as the slower driver is to move to the right as you are able to, right? Maybe not...but I would laugh my ass off to see you doing 75, and someone with the same idea, but change the speed to 65, and you roll up on them. You'd be all angry and cussing up a storm, eh? But they probably think that there's no reason to go more than posted speed unless you're being a jackass.... Do you like it? Probably not, but who are you to dictate what others do on the road. All it does is inflame everyone, and create the potential for road rage incidents. (reference the camaro that got pissed and lost control in a very similar situation...speed at which it occurred was probably a bit slower, but same idea...) If I'm in the left lane and someone comes up on my ass? I move over and let them pass....why not? They'll be the one that the cops catch... I will never understand why some folks are such assholes on the road.... |

The funny thing is that I have site I manage in Gainesville, FL.. So I know better. I drive down once a quarter and I always watch my speed. Not mad at the truck, not mad at the trooper.. Just mad at myself!

The rule reads "slower traffic keep right." It does not read "slower traffic that is under the limit keep right". Though I have never seen it enforced, it is a ticketable offense in the State of GA, and other states. Most highway backups are caused by a tool in the left lane thinking he is going fast enough, while traffic builds up behind him. Not a good idea, and certainly not the safe choice.
