A foward facing sub box takes up just as much space as a rear facing sub box. Subs are rated for cubic feet of space and so any box should have the same cubic space inside it that matches your subs. The trick would be to look around and see if you can find one that is for the lowprofile subs that don't require as much cubic space to operate.
Or use the ******** stealth box's that sit off to either side of the trunk. That oud leave the middle open for your tire. |

I don't understand the question, the link is 9 pages of subporn including various available trunk space. From the left side, right side, infinite baffle, behind the seat, any position you might be seeking. The volume of air between the top of the spare tire cover and back seat provides just over 2 cu ft of enclosed airspace if the box is built inside the car (~1.7 if not). You can trick the subs into another 30% of virtual air space but you will need to seek a local professional builder. 2ft is enough for almost any pair of 10's and most 12's. If you are going for sub-bass (20hz-40hz), you will need more air with a pair of speakers. You can go down the left and/or right side and pick up all the air you need. If you still need more visualization, I highly recommend picking up cardboard, a box cutter and tape....build a virtual box and see how much of your trunk you are willing to part with. A single 10' can be "hidden" in the left or right rear cubby hole without sacrificing the trunk and is more than enough thump for any listener looking to just fill out the bottom end. |

If you have a full size spare, it's not going to fit with the box (w/ dual subs)....without a little work. I have a ST front firing box, I cut a few inches off the depth of the box, and used Polk MM series 10" subs (they are shallow and dont require a lot of volume, yet sound great). I am able to cram a full size (front) spare, scissor jack & toolbox in there (and my amp is even mounted on the back of the box). I can get some measurements if you want to try and attempt this.
