Another skip shift ?

Hi,

Sorry to bring this up again but this happens to me when I am in parking lots in my little town and it is so crowded you crawl. Whenever it comes up even though I am not getting rpms or speed up I either keep it in first or shift into 2nd when it lets me.

I read in the manual that when it comes up you are not supposed to force it into 2nd.

Just wondering if anyone actually shifts into 4th when this happens and then do they shift back into 2nd or keep it in 4th or what.

Sorry but I read some threads on this and most are how to avoid it by getting speed or rpms up. Can't find much on the actual operation of it.

Just don't want to hurt my car. Got a little over 4K miles and have never followed it.

Also I don't really want to put on the skip shift eliminator because I think you have to have a lift to get under and install from the videos I watched.

Also I keep trying to put it into 2nd until it lets me. Is that forcing or would forcing give you a grinding noise?

Sorry for the newbie question but I am one so.

Thanks,
Kevin

Found this in the corvette section. Answers a lot of my questions:

One-to-Four Shift Light
(Manual Transmission)
When this light comes on,
you can only shift from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4)
instead of FIRST (1) to
SECOND (2).
You must complete the shift into FOURTH (4) to turn
off this feature. This helps you get the best possible
fuel economy.
After shifting to FOURTH (4), you may downshift to a
lower gear if you prefer.
Notice: Forcing the shift lever into any gear except
FOURTH (4) when the 1 TO 4 SHIFT light comes
on may damage the transmission. Shift only from
FIRST (1) to FOURTH (4) when the light comes on.
This light will come on when:
The engine coolant temperature is higher than
169°F (76°C),
• you are going 15 to 19 mph (24 to 31 km/h) and
• you are 21 percent throttle or less.

I'm so glad my V6 doesn't have that, it would be such a pain, especially in the backed up highway traffic I hit sometimes.

Hi,
Yah, I am thinking about going to a shop to get the bypass put on. It is only a few dollars but you got to get under the car.

Usually only happens to me in parking lots, but I could see it happening in rush hr too. I work off shifts.

Thanks,
Kevin

Install the skip shift eliminator yourself. It took me long to jack up the car than to install it. It's plug and play

Hi,
Yah, I was wanting to. Just never worked under a car with only a jack holding it up.

Thanks,
Kevin

No no no....do not work under car with just a jack. Get some stands, they're not much $ for some good ones. If you were closer I'd give you a couple of my old ones. I use stands and race ramps when under my car.

Btw, I'm Kevin too, lol

Get a set of ramps. Thats how I did mine. Then you can also save money doing your own oil changes.

Hi, Kevin, yah I agree about the jack. Thanks for the offer if we were local. Which ones do you use?

Thanks,
Kevin

A couple of mine are so old I don't remember who made them, lol. I have 6 total stands, including some tall ones for working on my truck. The ramps I have are Race Ramps, 67 inch, two piece.

Here's a picture of the ramps when I changed my trans fluid last week. If you're on a tight budget, the one piece ramps are much cheaper.
