Fuel Mileage, Driving Style and Octane Rating

This has surely been brought up in one thread or another, but I'm curious what fuel mileage you all are experiencing. I heard some were getting near 30 on the highway and near 20 around town. In my C6 Corvette Grand Sport, I was able to maintain better than 22 in town and on the highway near 28. Don't know if the Camaro will get that much or not.

So,

1. What kind of mileage are you experiencing?
2. What brand of fuel and octane rating do you use?
3. What's your driving style (describe it any way you feel is appropriate)?
4. Describe your Camaro's drive train, V6/V8 auto or manual?

1. At 50 around 32 mpg, at 60 the same, 72-75 drops down to about 24 mpg this is on the instant miles per gallon computer. Averaging 19.8mpg currently at 2500 miles. Cruise control is the only way to get good gas mileage.

2. Only use Shell and Mobil
3. Way too hard to use cruise control all the time. Did not use in the first 1500 miles and I like to use the rpms during break in. Everyday I seem to break 100mph. So my gas mileage even I think I am being conservative should probably be mildly aggressive?
4. V8 6 speed

Great...that's awesome mileage for a 455 HP car. I think the 8 auto is supposed to be more fuel efficient but I can't imagine why that would be. Hopefully, some of the auto guys will chime in.

Thanks, for responding.

First Fill Up

My first fill up at 275 miles consumed 12.7 gallons of 91 octane.

21.6 MPG! ...Trying to follow breaking in guide lines but it tough not getting on it once in a while!

I average about 16ish city using 91 in my A8. But I also drive a little heavy footed.. hard not to get into it when you turn onto a 60mph road from a dead stop, or merge onto any highway when the speed limit is 75 haha. I am sure I could get better but like I said I drive a little heavy footed, not a speeder but I like to get up to the speed limit as fast as I can hahahaha.

I find that using cruise control gets you worse mpg on the m6. Not too bad but a good -2/-3 mpg over what I can do when I am the cruise control lol. I use 91 octane and ALWAYS use a top tier gas station now. I've made the mistake of using a bottom tier gas and get on the dyno and when you see that bottom tier gas makes you loose about 30 rwhp... you stop using that shit gas lol

City + highway combined, I usually average about 24-26 mpg on an ENTIRE tank. I have learned that the LT1 is crazy as in, you have to measure the mpg by the entire tank consumption because if you don't I can get 32-33 mpg on the highway (for 25-30 miles straights) but then when you get off the highway on a road trip perhaps to use the restroom or smoke or grab a drink, whatever it might be... I just can't help myself to do a 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear pull getting on the highway so there goes the mpg haha.

Ask again in about a year when the new car, drive it like you stole it, mentality wears off a bit.

Averaging low 20's in an A8 V6 ...almost exclusively stop and go traffic. always premium fuel, but i've only filled up once so far.. Just broke 300 miles.

Averaging about 20 MPG using Costco 93 octane. About 500 miles so far. My driving is about 95% city stop and go. I am still in the break in period so I have not gone too crazy, but I wouldn't say I have been babying it either.

I am happily surprised so far, driving using the same exact daily routine, my 2014 SS manual was getting about 17 MPG and before that I had a 2011 A8 that also averaged just over 17 MPG.

I had to literally laugh out loud on your lack of control on the on ramps. You must be kin to me...lol. That's the best part of a long interstate trip. But, 24-26 is really good when you think about it and at the current low gas prices, you can actually afford to drive more than a couple years ago. If I'm trying to get good mileage, I don't use cruise. The cruise control maintains your speed when it doesn't really matter and it will put the pedal to the floor to do so. That's not the best way to get good mpg.

I will be curious to see if your mileage improves as the car gets more miles on it. Remember this thread and come back and let us know how your mileage reacts to more miles. 20 mpg around town in stop and go is pretty darned good. Enjoy your Camaro!

I have a feeling that as the weather gets better, my MPG will get worse, lol.

On the other hand, there has been a lot of remote starting the car to warm it up, so maybe it won't get too much worse.

In any case, I am glad that at least so far it is better than what I got in my 5th Gens.

Yeaaa... 15-16 mpg avg. My commute is all back roads with traffic lights. I drive it fairly hard and have been filling with 91. Just filled with sunoco 93.

I have the 1LT V6 6 Speed manual.
I'm averaging 22-23 lifetime (1300 miles) including traffic and all that stuff.

This week I'm going in early and coming home early and I'm averaging 25 because there is little traffic.

But this is my first car over 140 HP so I'm having a little too much fun with it I'm not revving it high but I am giving it more gas than required.
