Software update?

I remember reading about a software update and while my car is getting work done just wondering if I should have them update as well?

Not 100% sure there is an update, but thought I read there was in a thread here. Haven't had any issues besides the power steering mess so not sure if I should ask them to update it or not. I'm assuming it won't hurt and may prevent a future issue.

Guess it is just a bug fix update as I am definitely waiting on Android Auto for my BlackBerry.

There is an update for bug fixes. My screen would randomly bug out and start tapping random stuff but the update fixed it

Thanks, this is what I thought I read before. Just not sure if I should ask them to update the software while it's there since I haven't had any issues there? Will probably ask... can't hurt to have the latest software I'd think, but with my luck this month who knows!

Just be careful...the latest firmware isn't always a good idea. Being an IT tech for 20 years, my view is that if something is working fine, don't upgrade the FW. Just my 2 cents and from my experience.

Thanks for the feedback. Part of me is in the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" side, the other is that the car is already there so logically you'd think I'd get the latest software update.

Been through this with BB10 where there's hundreds of lines of code that may fix or improve one aspect, but then something else goes wrong.

Thinking I'll just get the power steering fixed (hopefully on the first try) and get the car back! Decisions, decisions.

Yeah I would leave it, unless there are issues. FW can hose a piece of hardware, seen it before. Basically is becomes a "brick"

I will be having my dealer update mine once the Android Auto update rolls out later next month (if they hit their release date)

Think I may just leave it as it is.

Funny, I'm more or less comparing to BlackBerry 10 OS in which I've had many (Z10, Z30, Passport) when I use to install my own patched OS or flash it with an autoloader that someone on the forums made which always left the possibility of bricking the device.

Not sure if this update would, but if so that would likely be a real pain to get fixed unless they could do the equivalent of what I would do with an accidental phone brick by using an autoloader and flashing it with an older or "official" OS build.

Anyway, not something I need and if I haven't already said my luck this month is not good to say the least... think I'll just leave that be.

That one I will definitely have them do. Still moving around between BB10 and have a Priv for the Android side of things (apps basically).

I am calling BS on this, if you don't force the fixes they will stay complacent and never advance the software. Prime example IT in healthcare. Stuff is so old and out dated they are seeing really big problem with the theory "if it ain't broke don't fix it". It cost a lot more money to wait and fix it when it is a problem than it does to fix it as you go.

...and on the third hand, we're forced to take "updates" where I work to fix real (or imagined) security problems that often break things. Sometimes in small annoying ways, other times in bigger more serious ways. There's no choice, and no reason other than the vendor made it available so "SERIOUS! MUST UPGRADE!".

There's a middle ground, and right and wrong reasons for upgrading. What I really want (but can't afford) is a beta test car to update before I update my daily driver.

Just this morning, my screen stopped responding to home button, won't play any music, clock stopped, and is on full bright, not sure what the heck is going on. I am old school and I work with computer workstations and servers for a living and I know how many problems they have and I don't want that stuff in my car. I just wanted a CD player, instead I got a toy tablet that doesn't work now.

what's funny about that statement is that you still use cds, i haven't even built computers with optical media in literally over 5 years probably longer. At least if your head unit is borked it did so within the warranty period.
