Dyno tune=dissapointment

Just had my car finished today with some N/A engine upgrades.

List is:
TSP 229/236 112 LSA cam
255cc ported heads TSP
UPL
ZL1 Pump

Car already has full bolt ons and dynd 410/409 two years ago.

Final dynd pull was 470/440. ???????

I was fully expected 500rhp with my setup....tuner says he saw a MAF error which might account for the low number.

Any tuners have any advice? I spent a ton for just 60rhp. I know it's just dyno numbers but I suspect the dyno is way off. Tuner is the best in the area..maybe a remote tune from Jannety?

what kind of dyno? a mustang dyno might show 13% less then a dyno jet. You're also in Alaska. temp and altitude make a big difference. every dynos different.

That's not real low. 10-15 maybe. The local dynos put bolt on cars at 410ish and heads and cam 470ish-480ish. Mine put down 478

Dyno jet. Temp was 55 and we are around 40 feet above sea level.

Tuner compared other cam only camaro builds to mine and numbers are exact but without ported heads or upl. Like you said every dyno is a tad different...

If you said it was a 235/239 cam, I'd say you'd have a lot closer chance to getting around that 500whp number. But there are other factors at play, I'm sure. The MAF may be one but, what is your compression at with those heads, now? What octane fuel? If you have too much spring that could also rob you of a few hp. Do you have long tubes? How about cats?

The random laundry list of things that could potentially nickel and dime you away from that threshold is pretty long. Sometimes it's just the tuner, sometimes it's the combination of parts that don't coincide with an optimal setup.

I think to many people get fixed on Dyno numbers, just remember, a dyno is just a tuning tool if your af and timing and drive ability are good take to the track and see how it does, But i think your numbers look good might be a bit more room depends on how aggressive you want to go

Id say its a tad low for what you have done but every dyno reads different.

I made 411rwhp with just headers and K&N Intake and diablosport 91 octane tune. Now with the BTR stage 4 cam and a real tune by Arun Ahuja I made 470rwhp and 443rwtq..on the stock heads and stock intake manifold and stock throttle body.

Hope you get it sorted out!

Don't feel bad I had ;
Roto fab
Ported TB
PRC 255 heads milled to 65cc
231/236 112 LSA
Full SLP exhaust LTH to Tips
ZL1 Pump
NX 150 shot

Dyno'd at 460rwhp (not on the juice) on a Mustang Dyno, everything I have heard confirms the 13% correction factor which would put me at 520rwhp. After just my cam I was only making 430. Heads picked me up an extra 30hp.

While this is indeed correct and I can understand why folks think this is a more accurate representation of how a vehicle performs, not everyone likes drag racing or has a track nearby. For some of us, a dyno is the only tool for measuring your over all power.

And tuning WOT and max power is cake. Tuning skill comes in at idle/part throttle/etc. Anyone can set WOT to make good power. People who think there is magic power between tuners at WOT are a bit crazy. You set AF, you set timing. Thats it. You can't magically make a car take more timing. It does what it does at WOT.

Yeah it's all a/f and timing.

Okay, final results are 490/460...

Like some have said, numbers on paper don't tell the full story.

Tuner said cam was a great choice for a DD. Power is pretty constant thru the curve even if you loose a little up top.

Took it out and wow, car takes off. Best part so far is the clutch, Street Slayer twin carbon (shameless plug). Have to learn the clutch again but it is way way better than the stock one. Tuner was very impressed with it. This is going to be a fun weekend...
