Exhaust on a vert
So I know this topic has beat to a dead horse but I am still going to ask...
![]() I have a 2014 2SS and I want to upgrade the exhaust but I need something that sounds better than stock but isn't obnoxious. My wife and kids ride in this with the top down and I want them to still enjoy it. I have listened to tons of youtube videos and so on but I want to know what other Vert owners are running. Ideally I would like to do headers and use an X pipe and High flow cats and mufflers to tone it down and kill the dreaded drone. Just not sure of the proper combination.

Just with those 3 parts, you can still obtain a variety level of sound. You may want to decide on what type of headers and then work your way down from there. I myself am still stock except for my Legato. I'm looking to go a little louder so I might go muffler delete or Outlaw.

Corsa is the only way to go! This is the 3" ZL1 kit with quad tips. They say it doesn't fit, but I was able to finagle it under there.

None of the videos do justice... I just went through this whole process also... sounds like you would be satisfied with my set up (aftermarket mufflers) and a resonator delete with no intake or headers you will love the sound and it's not too aggressive driving in low rpms, but step on the gas and she will make some noise.. i didnt realise how loud it was until I had my wife drive it around the block and i was impressed.. I got my axle back muffler's installed first it sounded waaaay better than stock, then about 6 months later I did resonator delete and it sounds much better at high rpms and startup but not much difference driving slow..Doing this will also get rid of ALOT of weight.. I think around 100lbs if i had to guess but the stock mufflers are huge so are the resonators..My local shop deleted the resonators and installed my x pipe for $75 .. My mufflers installed at a differnt time and place was $90 (obviously brought my own parts) .. sorry if I was little all over the place with the reply but long story short if you are all stock, first thing you need to do is get new mufflers (no mufflers is also a louder option) and a resonator delete it will sound nice and muscley but not at all too loud for the kids my nephew is 7 and he can't get enough of my car espicaly with top down. If your me, like you will want it louder after driving it for a few months... Intake will change the tone so will headers and aftermarket cams so on so fourth but that should definitely get you started and you will love your car 10 times more i promise... Also im sure somebody is going to recommend getting a cat back instead of an axle back wich is fine if you want to spend the coin.. A cat back is more expensive and basicly the same thing as getting a res delete with some new mufflers just make sure you get that X or H pipe in there! I hear you can mess your car up running only straight pipe after so many miles.. good luck!

Borla atak and resonator delete sounds just like what you're looking for. I ran that setup for 2 years and loved it but 6 months ago I decided I needed a little more noise. I suggest headers only if you're willing to baby it because man it screams when you step on it with no cats and free flow

I had the same problem as you you, first I did the muffler delete, it sounded good, but not great, so I ended up taking off the factory resonator and replacing it with the Magna flow resonated X pipe, now it's perfect. The drone was eliminated when when I installed Range device......good luck!

I've heard many good things about Borla. But my honest opinion would be to find a factory NPP exhaust off a 1LE or ZL1. Some high-flow cats will give it better sound, but the valves will keep the sound manageable when you are not hammering on it. Keep in mind, if you don't have the rear diffuser for the dual tips, then you'll probably have to purchase a new rear end to have a clean finish and aggressive look.
Also, if you have the means to do it, install sound deadening in your trunk and back half of your car. This will also help keeping the sound behind you. The cutouts will sound awesome, but the fumes will get to you and your passenger when stopped at long lights.

I have a '14 LS3 vert with NPP and had your same concerns except, my priority was power. I wanted a stealth vert, in other words, as much power as I could get with as little noise increase as possible. This is a difficult equation because power = air flow = noise.
I ended up with a CAI intake and polished intake on the front end and ARH headers with HFCs into the stock cat back. I gained 43 rwhp and love the sound. The closed butterfly in the NPP really helps during low rpm cruising and it's a thrill when it opens up above 3000 rpm. I am completely satisfied with this outcome and would do the exact same thing should I ever own another Camaro.

I wanted rumble but limited drone. I went with the Solo Cat back with J pipes. It gave me what I was looking for. I eventually added high flow cats to give me even more rumble and the drone is still limited. I did really also like the sound of the Borla. A tremendous amount of videos on this site for options. Good luck!
