2011 top raising issue/concern

Recently, I went to lower my top. I started the car, unhitched the top and pushed up slightly making sure it was free and clear, and pushed in the button to lower. Windows went down, as they should. Heard motor working, but top did not engage for about 5 seconds. Finally I heard the motor sound change and engage and the top went up and to the back. Going back up is not a problem. Sometimes it engages quickly as it always had, and sometimes I hear the motor whining (higher pitch) with no engagement for several seconds. What's happening here?

I'll follow up my own post. Took it to the dealership today due to the fact that the top was not going down now at all. Motor making noise, but no engagement. Dealer found leak in the hydraulic system. Working on it now. I do have extended warranty, so I'm hoping to only pay the first $100. We'll see.

That makes sense regarding the delay. Thanks for posting!

Got it back from the dealer and all is well. They replaced the hydraulic cylinder. Total cost of $793 for parts and labor. I only paid $100 deductible. Thank you extended warranty!
