Should I trade in?
Hello everyone,
I've been thinking about going a different route for a car for a while now. Something about putting over 10k into a car (5th gen) only to have it get stomped by a bone stock vette is very unappealing to me. I love the raw feel the camaro has but its weight seems like it takes a small fortune to overcome. I am currently contemplating a C6 Z06, because I have had the pleasure of getting behind wheel of one, and I loved the feel of the car. However, I am open to other ideas. I do still have a loan on my camaro for around 23k. If you go by KBB, I have negative equity of around 3k. One of my siblings works at a chevy dealership and by their system is says that my car is worth what I owe causing no negative equity. I was looking at C6Z's around the mid 30k range. I am eager to hear your guys' thoughts!

If you get a C6 Z06, you'll get stomped by a C7. And the cycle will never end.

Yes, there is always someone faster than you. However even then there aren't many cars that will outperform a 600rwhp z06. Plus, would a built lt1 c7 be able to beat a built ls7 z06? I know a c7 z06 would win without a doubt.

Any older gen car is going to be outgunned by newer models. It's the automotive version of the circle of life. With that being said, a C6 Z06 is my dream car regardless of what newer models can beat it. The looks and performance for the price are unbeatable and with some mods you'll be running a very fast car.
However, are you really willing to just break even on your Camaro? That seems like a loss to me. Yes, there will always be someone with a car faster than yours, but if you've built something that you enjoy then who cares? You need to decide if you want a Camaro or a Corvette. And that answer should steer you towards what you should do. |

Pay off your Camaro, and when you have the cash plus trade in to buy the Z06, do it. Don't get upside down on a toy.

This is a dangerous game to play. You'll always be unhappy with whatever you have.

lol a stock C7 will definitely not stomp or keep up with a stock C6Z. I just sold my C6Z last year and ran several C7's in Mexico and ate them up. To the op, there will always be someone faster no matter what you get. To me a stock C6Z is better than a 5g (had a 13 hci ls3 5g) but you will need to address the heads issue immediately if it wasn't addressed already. I would not go from a newer car to an older car but that is just me,

I'm going to play the Debbie downer role. Sorry.
It seems a bit alarming to me that you still owe 23K on a 2011 model car, but yet you sank 10 grand into it during that time as well. Do you really want to lose your butt on it, and get into another expensive car and you'll likely sink another several grand into over the course of a few years? Next....you may have 10 grand into the car, but if your sig shows all of your mods, much of that was put into handling (good stuff) and not just straight line. I'm seeing 2 - 3 grand worth (not including install cost if you didn't do the work) of power modifying parts in your sig. The LT1 is a stout engine, and the Corvette is considerably lighter....two things that are going to give it a big advantage. You'd need to add a cam to your setup to be more competitive. But is it worth it? Not sure.

I dont have ten grand in the car. I was saying that if I did. Ex: turbo, supercharger. All the work was done myself, so it was just cost for parts. Thank you for your thoughts.

Gah, how do you still owe 23k on a 6 year old car?

Negative ghost rider. Even a C7 Z06 would not decisively win a race vs its older non-supercharged version.
C6 z06 is still one of the best bangs for the buck.

Not sure what the video is trying to prove. A C6 Z06 vs a C7 Stingray. Based on performance specs the Z06 should win.
Times for each (0-60 & qtr mile) C6 Z06 - 3.5 & 11.5, C7 Z06 - 2.95 & 10.95, and C7 Stingray - 3.9 & 12.2. With everything else being equal, then slowest to fastest would be C7 Stingray, C6 Z06, and C7 Z06 |
