The time has come to make some noise! (Exhaust)

Been driving my new to me 2012 Ss camaro convertible for almost a week now.. Love it !!

Pending that i have to have the Axle seals or whatever it is in the rear done at chevy.. (I have this crazy rubbing sound when turning at Slow Speeds or pulling out of a parking spot.)

I like the sound of the Borla ATAK Axle back..

I want the Car to be rumble at Idle and loud when Reving it or getting on it.

Im mainly going for sound here cause I think the car is Fast enough for me as it is .. Just Too quite..

I wanted to ask a Few things i am Confused about..

Do I need a certain model number for the borla when ordering since I have a convertible?

I do not have the Ground Fx on the rear...

Also now i have started to read about these so called "butterfly" valves that are on the pipes after the Cats...

i guess what I'm asking as well is : Is it better off to Get the Cat back system which I'm assuming will eliminate these Butterfly Valves?

any gain to opening up the Valves or removing them without a Exhaust? I'm assuming it doesn't make it louder or nothing right?

Lets say I decide I just want to Go with the Borla Atak Axle back... Will leaving the butterfly valves alone be a negative in anyway ?

Slightly confused , Sorry not really That big of a car guy but love this car

If you are stock exhaust, then a muffler delete is a nice option...Since you are an automatic, you will need to either tune out your AFM or get a range device. When you move away from the stock exhaust, the sound of the AFM (active fuel management) will drive you crazy because it sounds like big, wet nasty farts....

The values are used the create more system pressure when your car goes into AFM (or 6 cy mode)... Because of the cats, resonators and stock headers, it's really not that bad. I upgraded to a louder muffler system and after spending $400, I had a little more growle in my tone but no where what I wanted. The guys with the manual systems had a different exhaust so muffler deletes for them are a tad louder.

I had axle back mufflers put on.. one day, I just took them off and drove around for a little... I loved it... Cars in storage now but once the weather is nice, going to take it to a local muffer shop and have them just delete the mufflers..

The Range devices cost around $100, you plug them into your OSB port and it turn off AFM... When I go driving around, I use my Range... However, if I'm taking a trip on the highway, I'll take it out to get better MPG

I have the Solo Mach XC catback that is especially made for the convertible. It has J-pipes to eliminate drone and has a nice rumble and makes that muscle car roar at wot. It is also one of the least expensive catbacks. Listen to the video. Contact JuicedMototorsports. He can get you a better price. http://solo-performance.com/mach-xc-cat-back-camaro

Do the cat back system!!! I just installed the Lingenfelter by Corsa axle back system less than two weeks ago. That system has tiny little mufflers but it was still WAYYYY too quiet, even with the butterfly valves safety wired in the open position it was very quiet. Last week I ended up ordering a stainless X-pipe from summit which replaced the entire center section behind the cats and also removes the big resonator thing, now the car sounds great. You will not be happy with just an axle back on the convertible. Also, as other have eluded to you will need to do a tune to turn of the AFM if your car is an auto.

There are always for sale here: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=99 Perform a search for RANGE

Just make sure you get the newer v4 version which fixed some issues others were experiencing.

typically, they go used for about $100

Depends which system you buy, most cat back system will eliminate it. The way I did it which was purchasing an axle back and then the stainless X-pipe ( CHEVROLET CAMARO Summit RacingŪ X-Pipes SUM-642135-SS) did not eliminate the butterfly valves but I simply tack welded them open and problem solved. Had I know all of this in advance I just would have opted for a complete cat back system to begin with. My car sounds great, I really didn't spend any more money the way I did than had I purchased a complete cat back but I did have to spend more time installing, basically twice the time. My car sounds great now...finally.

Just be aware, if you decide to go with long tubes at some point the ATAK is crazy loud. I like it but some may find it....objectionable.
