Exclamation Melancholy Detroit Video

Surfing google this morning keyword -Detroit Camaro- and up popped this video on youtube. Detroit has really changed over the years. I felt sad watching this video but I hope one day soon Detroit will come back and be the pride of American Muscle again!

There's more to it than just race.

There taxing people like crazy.
They passed a new law making it so 32 hours now counts as full time so any time over that counts at overtime witch they take a quarter of. I lose a quarter of 88$ 2-3 of my work days.
Most people I know working 32 hours are on food stamps welfair or other programs. I'm not because I no longer qualify

They control what business can and got be allowed
And union jobs here force you to join or Lose your job
Roads falling apart the whole states falling apart
Governor browns already been found paying the tax money for new roads and transportation to his pension and other peoples salary.
I've lived here for 30 years and people are getting poorer and poorer crime going up every year
Sounds pretty close

Edit: I hate this phone it just re freaking puts words in after I post. Really do not like reading my post and having to face palm.......

Decline of the Big Three car manufacturers during the 80s and 90s. Lots of plants closing lead to a great deal of unemployment. That had nothing to do with whether or not someone is Black or White. When jobs leave in such numbers, you will have those remaining in extreme poverty. It's not like, for example, Detroit was still the car king of the world, same employment numbers paying great wages AND then the area goes downhill due to the fact of race. Show me where that has happened in the same way it affected Detroit.

I would have to say you may be describing where you lived, but this does not represent the whole state. I live in San Diego, and couldnt be happier. So, to compare the WHOLE state of California to a failing city in Michigan is insane. Detroit basically failed, in my opinion, because of their lack of industry. The same is happening in my hometown in Iowa, where John Deere was once king, now the whole town relies on small businesses to support the families that still live there. California has many industries, and most are thriving...

Google Dewitt Nebraska and Vice Grip. All our jobs went overseas......Dewitt is the best example of what happened to this country. Rome proved a bunch of fat people like us can't survive very long consuming and being non productive. Our million dollar atheletes stories and billion dollar sports arenas will make great tours in about 50 years......we had it all.........hell, we can't even buy an American made TV.

Poor video. He would have us believe that Detroit fell due to left wing politics and the UAW. I worked for GM and I can tell you that I never saw the figures for pay and benefits that he posted in the video. Sure, blame it on the union worker, whose only "crime" is working for a decent wage in very tough conditions. Wages that were earned through years of hard fought negotiations to end the poverty and basic slave labor that was taking place in car plants prior to the unions stepping in. I'm not saying the unions are perfect, but capitalism left unchecked is not pretty.

I don't have all the answers as to why Detroit looks like it does now. I do know that it's just not as simple as pointing a finger at two entities and saying "That's the bad guy." It appears that somewhat of a "perfect storm" must have occurred. Housing foreclosures, job loss, lack of education and training to supplement the loss of the higher paying automotive plant jobs, etc.

Education and training is the key. I'm against handouts without some sort of program attached to increase the skills that people need today. Don't want the training, then no handout.

I beg to differ amigo. You're from Iowa, like most people these days in California, you are one of the millions of migrants that *went west*. Well, I was living in Los Angeles in the 1980s to about 1996. I saw the changes first hand and I befriended many Angelenos or Natives of Los Angeles, many of whom left the state decades ago. California has been suffering for many years since the early 90s. Native Californians I know said the end of opportunity and decent people was around the mid 1980s, however you are trying to be positive and I don't blame you.
