LT and RS Manual Transmission (TR3160) Reverse Lockout

So the TR3160 has the reverse gear on the left side of the pattern and in the Camaro does not have a lockout feature. I have had two big issues with this.

1. Shifts from neutral to 1st (think stoplight) can end up in reverse.
2. Downshifts from 3rd-2nd can end up on the other side of the reverse gate instead of in 2nd.

The ATS and the Mustang GT350 both use this transmission. The GT350 has a reverse lockout.
So... How do I get a reverse lockout for the Camaro? Think I can install one off of a GT350? or make my own? Is it an internal piece to the transmission?

Is anyone else interested in finding a solution?

it does have a lock out. You have to knock it pretty hard to the left to get through the gate and into reverse.

I regular pass through the lockout doing a 3rd to 2nd downshift. I have also engaged reverse instead of 1st before.

The dealer said the lockout's resistance was within spec and I have driven other cars and it is the same.

The "lock out" that I am referring to is not about engaging reverse, but about passing through the gate. I would like something like the GT350 has to prevent passing through the gate to reverse.

I personally haven't had a problem...the fiance almost has to 2 hand the stick to get it to pop over into reverse...

And yes, 'that's what she said' lol.

If this had happened to me I'd be looking into the same, but as of now is a non-issue

That was a problem with the old Aisin AY6 used in the 5th Gen V6 Camaro too. I ran a quick web search and it looks like the GT350 lockout is done with special hardware in the transmission. It might be worth your time to contact Tremec to see if it is possible to add that to the Camaro.

I wonder what the acceptable range of force is for passing the gate. Also, I'll be interested to see how it changes over time.

Yep... In the process. Trying to get a hold of one of each piece atm.

Mine takes enough force that I have a hard time forseeing an accidental reverse shift... However, I too wonder how much this might change say after 75-100,000km...

I'm interested in what you find out Nate....
How different is the transmission in the 350? Is a swap a possibility for future considerations?

I'd expect the transmission itself to bolt right up. But the shifter is probably significantly different as well as the bell-housing. Looks like the GT350 is geared significantly higher.

Off Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tremec...transmission):

Model 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Reverse
Cadillac ATS[5] 4.12 2.62 1.81 1.30 1.00 0.80 3.75
Chevrolet Camaro[6] 4.40 2.59 1.80 1.34 1.00 0.75 3.99
Ford Mustang Shelby GT350[7] 3.25 2.23 1.61 1.24 1.00 0.63 2.95

At least you all are now running Tremecs. The Gen 5 was running Japanese Aisin/Warner Trans. Many had Syncronizer wear failures.
