Just Ordered: Heres my deal
So I ordered a 2LT stick with a sunroof. MSRP + destination was $28,625. So the price I ended up with was $27,997.51 which was $627.49 below MSRP. Now of course he had the paperwork that showed my price as being invoice price. Obviously it wasn't, the $550 advertising fee for example, is complete BS. But still $630 below MSRP seems pretty decent.
So how did I do? I drove an automatic V6 and it was ok. Its funny, it sounds like a little v6, but it sure does move in a hurry. And the windows are so small, I told the guy I felt like I was hiding. Parallel parking in the city is going to be a bitch in this thing but still considering the price and the MPG, this is probably the best car for me to buy.

I think you did descent. The common discounts on a V6 right now are supplier minus the 60 day guarantee $500. That could be a max of $1500 or so off. So if you take off the $500 60 day guarantee off your price, you're sure close!

You did great ...you got about half the markup...the salesman made maybe $200.00 bucks. There is not really much mark up in a camaro and of course the more the msrp the more the markup. enjoy the car..in time the price you paid will be forgotten and you will have some excellent memories connected to your new CAMARO... HAPPY MOTORING

Sounds good. This comes up too many times, but the advertising fee is not something the dealer has done, that's on there like a destination charge or option from GM and charged to the dealer similarly, as part of the price on top of invoice. A few dealers here and there don't participate in regional advertising & don't have the fee (had a GM dealer locally for the longest time that always used this as a selling point, i.e. more room to discount), but that's not typical.
If the dealer was adding it, of course. But they aren't, it's just there and you have to deal with it. But again, great choice, nice price, and you should every much enjoy the car! |

Dealerships also have to pay electric bills, water bills, property tax. But none of those are on my invoice either. Advertising is absolutely part of the profit of selling a car. The idea that they would add that on separately is completely BS in my opinion.

Oh right, because dealer invoices are so 'honest'. So whats holdback again?
Anyway this is getting off topic, and I just detest the entire car buying experience.

So I gave my dealer a $1000 deposit but he wants another $1000 because it's a "factory order". Does that sound reasonable? Sounds very unreasonable to me. If I do it, it will all be on a credit card so if the car falls through for some reason, I'd be able to get the money back pretty easily.

You done good. After battling with all the south florida dealers for a few days I have given up. I'm gonna get another sport car for now and then sell it in a year and a half for a depreciated 2SS. Bye folks, I envy you.
