Set on an LS - First Car

Hey everyone,

I know I may get some bashing, but any comments are appreciated.
I am still only 15, I got my learners the day after my 14th birthday (I live in Alberta, you get your license at 16). So anways, I have been researching and looking at different cars to get.
The camaro was way out of my picture at first, I didn't bother to look because I thought this would be a 35-40k car.
Then I made the mistake of looking
I talked to my Mom, and Dad. I told them how it actually has a great MPG rating, and it is quite good on gas. The base is 27k I believe up here in Canada, which isn't too bad. My sister got a Mazda 3, which was around 20k I believe, so I thought the extra price wouldn't be too bad if I get a 5k down payment on it.
I've done a lot of research and reading seeing what would be the best for me. So far I am set on the 2010 LS Camaro, the only extra option I am getting is the Block Heater. I am also going with the manual.

I am completely paying for this myself, I should get a 5k down payment on it... Hopefully more.
I should be ordering this in September or October next year.

I am deciding between Red with black stripes, or one of the blues with white stripes. Not sure.

Thanks guys,
Carter

Why would you think you would get bashed?

If you can save 5k at 15, dude you rock!

Plus, it sounds like you are doing your homework re the Camaro! Smart kid!

At 16 I would have loved to have a new Camaro. I settled for a used 68 1st gen and was loving every minute of it. If you do get it, be proud to own an LS. You will still turn heads and have a terrific ride.

Key is ... can you make the payments and pay for the insurance long term?

Only suggestion ... When you do get it, don't drive ti like a nut or cause any accidents. Sorry, that's the parent in me speaking!

Good luck!

Good Luck, I hope you get one...

I would have loved to have a New 69 Camaro as my first car... BUT My parents wouldn't let me get one... I had Saved $1100 dollars (like 10,000 in todays car dollars) the Camaro I wanted listed for $2,900.00 I ended up driving a hand me down Corvair for 2 years and getting a 71 Vega Hatchback for $2000 dollars new... traded it 3 years later for a 74 Camaro.

I wasn't sure if some people would be like "What a stupid idea for a first car, you're going to crash it for sure" but, you never know.

Yes I should be able to make the payments. I'm looking at getting a seven year financing plan. I've had a job ever since I was 12, so I am quite a hard worker. So I have figured it out, and I should make it by with a bit extra every month for what a teen buys haha.

Yes thanks, that's one thing I won't do. Of course I will drive it fast one or two times, on a dual lane one way highway, when there are no vehicles. I'm not going to lye about that one. Plus there is "Race City" here, so I could always go there instead.

Thanks!

Also, just wanted to point out one thing. I'm thinking of getting the Corsa exhaust system with this. I believe it's around $1500. But just less money I can spend to save up. It will be hard, but it's always worth it.

The LS is a great mod car for the money, unlimited things that can be done over time. Have fun, but not too much fun.

I think it is a great idea. You can gradually mod/upgrade the car over time resulting in years of fun. Good for you.

Yea Skyman haha. Plus up here in Calgary we have like 5 months with no snow. So an SS for me wouldn't work, as I would still need a winter car.

I think I can get my parents to buy me a good set of winter tires for the LS, as it's for my safety. Plus I doubt they would have a problem with that.

I think some people could be jealous because they never had such a cool car as your first car. I like how you are getting a manual. I think you'll learn to control the car a lot better with that, and plus it makes it so your friends can't drive it

The majority of the population can't drive manual.

Sounds like you got a good plan for it, and I think you'll appreciate it since you are paying for it.

I can tell you I feel safer in the Camaro with the Pirelli Scorpions than I do with my 2000 Camry with all seasons. I've driven the Camry year round and on all conditions since I got it new in 2000.

With the stabilitrack and ABS in my 2LT, I hit some patches of black ice today, and found that it did not let the car go sideways.

The way I figure it, the car was built in Canada so it was meant for winter weather.

Yea. It's funny I'm in grade 10, and most of my friends are in grade 12 because of my cousin. Their not negative about it though, I told them I'll give em a ride in it and thats the end of that haha.

But it's funny, some kids I tell in my grade "Yeah right you'll never get it" or "Why would you even get that, the insurance is going to be like 600 a month".

Lol, total crap. First of all yes I will get it, second of all insurance was around 300 a month.

Can't wait though, I live in a small town with around 10k people, so far it will be the nicest car at the school
