A little help with my 68 SS - Camaro5 Chevy Camaro Forum / Camaro ZL1, SS and V6 Forums

I have a 1968 SS that was my car in high school that I am looking to sell. The problem is I'm not really sure what its worth. About a week before I left for college there was a short and a small electrical fire under the dash. There was no real damage other than to the electrical system. I was able to get the car started bt har wiring the distributor straight to the battery. I drove it to my grandmothers parked it and left for college. Well it has been sitting there for about 7 years now. she wants it gone and I really have no place to keep it. It needs some body work and has some rust. It has a 350 and muncie 4-speed. I have everything for the car and it should be much to get it running again. I am going to try and make it down to my grandmothers and get some pictures of it seeing how I haven't even seen it for about 2 years.

Well I know it would be tough without some pictures but what is a price range for something like this? I will get pictures up as soon as possible. The car is in Arizona so although it has some rust it shouldnt be anything too crazy.

yea that will help alot hard to tell without pics but the thing about them cars is everyday u wake up it goes up in price

I'm going down to get pics first thing in the morning. The car is about a 2 hour drive away so I should be home and have the pics up by Saturday afternoon. I have a few people interested in the car already but I want some feedback as to what its worth first.

Well i just got with pics of the car. I hope you guys can help me out. Now I never verified if it was an original SS or a clone. I was given to me so I took it for what it was.

Im sure you can check by the VIN but I don't really know how to go about doing that. It does not run, it did when it was parked there 7 or 8 years ago but had a wiring problem had to hard wire the distributor to the battery to get it to run. As far as a price thats why I'm here I really don't know what they run for. I want to be reasonable but get close to what its worth.

I found a site that tells how to verify if a Camaro is a true SS. Apparently there is no code in the VIN that tells if a car was an SS or not. In the 67's and 69's there was a code on the trim tag but not on the 68's. So unfortunately with out the original engine which I don't have there is no way to tell for sure. All you can get from the VIN is that it did have a 8 cyl engine in it.

i don't believe that there is a way to verify if it is a real SS without paperwork ... sales paperwork matching the VIN or the protecto-plate. it would have to have the SS basics ..... 350 or 396 (not a 302DZ), front disc brakes and a 12 bolt rear. without those items .... conclusively not a SS, with those items .... COULD be a SS.
