Right front sway bar link is broken

A mechanic pointed out that my right front sway bar link is broken. What typically causes this to break and if I replace it with an OEM part, is it likely to break again?

Thanks

It's a normal wear item replace both and don't sweat it for another 10 years or so.

Had the front sway bar links replaced. Here's a picture of the broken part - based on how the ends looked, it's been broken for a long time.

Damn, clean break right in the middle!

The front sway links on these cars are freaking toothpicks.

Some people remove the front sway bar and links anyway lol. But yea they are wear items like all bearings and suspension parts.

The links are bigger on the later models, but you could have to drill the mount hole. I put those in when I put bigger bars in. My links looked ok, but the ends fell apart when I went to take them off.

I can honestly say I have not seen one break like that on any of our vehicles!

My first thought was that maybe this car was towed at some point and the driver mistakenly put the hook around it and bent it. That would cause fatigue over time and eventually cause it to break. Just a thought. It's unusual for sure

How long ago did you buy the car? It's possible that it could have broken in an accident and the shop that did the repairs didn't deem it necessary to replace. Just a thought. The tow hook that Not a 45 mentioned is also a pretty good guess. I can only imagine to snap like that would take some instant kind of force though, like an accident.

Is there a noticeable difference in the two? I’m guessing no since it was pointed out to you.
