The sky may actually be falling...

An article caught my eye. Particularly the following paragraph:

The report also called for a “clear timetable” for the introduction of Intelligent Speed Adaptation technology that would use global positioning satellites to take away control of vehicle speed from the driver, making it impossible for a car to exceed the limit on a given road. The same information communications technology (ICT) infrastructure could be used for congestion pricing, tolling of every journey and charging for insurance by the number of miles driven. The commission explained that such systems would require a substantial and ongoing financial investment.

No need to comment unless you feel like reading the article.

Wow, I don't know if I see this happening in my lifetime. It would require a SERIOUS investment in a brand new infrastructure, and I just can't see that happening while there is still road construction, repair, etc to pay for. Something this big would probably go to a public vote (at least where I live), and I can't imagine it passing.

They have the lane sensors now and adaptive cruise control which seems like it would be more than half of what you need. After that you only have to control about 1 in 30 cars on a busy freeway to control everyone's speed. When/if those get required on new vehicles then my crazy conspiracy beeper will go off.

I always get concerned when there is something 'green' that actually may improve safety. It gets billed as safety with the side effect of being green.

Just pull the antenna—problem solved. That's among the least intensive mods any of us would do.

To be COMPLETELY safe, you must wrap the entire vehicle in tin foil...... as well as your head. Should be safe to cut out eye holes, but leave the mouth covered.

Strangely enough, I've been working on that for my next project!
