Backup lights?
Has anyone changed the backup light bulbs? Feel like I could backup better at night with some brighter lights. Youtube is showing that you have to disassemble most of the backend of the car. Is that right?

You have to pull the rear bumper cover. Disconnect taillights. Remove screws in the wheel wells. Pull outward on the sides where the bumper cover ends in the wheel wells. Then pull the rest out from the rear. It has push in keepers all the way across the back. These are what I put in. They've been great so far.

Yep, I did this mod with the PH24W LED bulbs. They’re a pretty particular size, but it’s nice that some companies made them in LED’s. The job to remove the rear bumper, just to replace the reverse/back-up lights sucks for sure…
I would make sure you get some good legit bulbs and test them before you actually put back on the rear bumper. Imagine you going through ALL of that, just to realize one or none of your reverse lights are working. LOL I’m pretty sure almost all the 5th gen Camaro owners will agree that replacing those lights are the worst light bulb to work on, on these cars. Lol |

I could not even imagine. Haven't been there yet as I have two that are functioning atm... the third brake light plus the ZL1 rear spoiler brake light.

It is absolutely the worst. You seriously have to remove the entire rear interior to change that light. Side panel, window trim, rear seat, everything before you can remove the cover to replace that light.

Between that and pulling the dash to replace the evaporator...what were they thinking?

In case any '14, '15 owners are attempting the same upgrade here's the procedure: https://www.carcarekiosk.com/video/2.../reverse_light
If I had a '10 to '13 I'd probably leave well enough alone. With my luck I'd break some unobtainable fasteners and end up with a Gorilla Tape mod. LOL!

Truth. Done it twice for my conversion, did it once on a '99 expedition, about to do it again on my daughters '06 Jeep Commander. Nothing but FUN...

reverse reply
This all sounds absolutely horrible. The ones I have currently function but just don't seem very bright when using the backup camera to reverse at night. The rear side marker change seemed initially daunting as well but I used a probably ill advised push and pry method that I got away with. No way that is working on the backup lights. Thanks for the lights part SS_ Dave. Navigating the world of LED replacement lights on Amazon is a rabbit hole itself.
