Open the floodgates:
I have a V1, and it works for me. Do some research and decide what features you want out of a radar detector and then ask that question. The same holds true for a security system. And a trunk monkey is not a real option |

I'd recommend getting one that pages you when it goes off, at least you won't ignore it. That's the type I'll be getting installed at least, for that very reason.

As a cop, don't waste your money on a car alarm.
They don't deter anyone. As previous posters said, just don't leave anything visible in your car. Even a coat sitting on a seat will draw attention. People who prowl cars look for something that might be of value, smash the window, grab it and go...takes them 10 seconds, no alarm stops them from doing that. As a side note, if you're using the detector as a toy, have fun, if you're expecting it to warn you of cops...don't bother, they're worthless. I had one until I got into law enforcement...having been certified in Radar and Laser, I gave mine away....absolutely worthless. |

Rule #1: Don't lead the pack. If you lead the pack or are speeding solo, the detector isn't going to help you. Find a pace car and follow 300+ yards behind. Let him get tagged then you slow down. Better yet, be the 3rd+ car in a pack and stay just in visible range of lead car. |

If you play the pack mentality you don't need the detector anyway Most stationary enforcement these days is with Laser....so you pick whichever car you want out and tag it. Reality is, smart driving tactics are far more effective than a detector

Maybe in Utah. Not every state is the same. None of the jurisdictions close to San Antonio use laser at all. This is just an example, so take it for what it is...

Also, a lot of our unmarked speed traps (stationary or moving) are non-triggering types where the Cop just leaves his radar on and waits for someone not paying attention. A radar detector would help in that situation. But I agree, awareness is free and effective. |

Guess some agencies aren't into the 21st century yet I haven't seen a non-triggered radar gun around here in years....our agency doesn't even own radar anymore, it's all laser. As for the scenario you presented with multiple cars, if they are using radar, go fight the ticket. Radar actually can't distinguish between multiple vehicles. It picks out the fastest (or largest) vehicle in the pack. Now if they're using Laser, they'll pick out each car, but in that case the detector isn't likely to help, it's too quick 99% of the time.
