POOR COMMUNICATION BETWEEN CAR DEALERS AND MVB

I just found out that my 2003 CHEVROLET IMPALA HAS A RECALL ON THE WIRING. My mechanic sold me the car in april 2009. Its an ex SQ police car. He got the recall notice from GM. Why is it that I did not get it directly!!!

There's an obvious glitch that needs to be adressed by either the motor vehicle bureau and or the car dealers and manufacturers.

Its because you didnt buy it from a gm dealership! And your information isnt uploaded into their system! Id put $100.00 the last person who owned it in general motors records would have got the notice! The recalls get sent out from GM via the GMVIS ( General Motors Vehicle Inquiry System) This system gets updated automatically when a used car is sold from a gm lot!

Yeah, I'm not sure how that works, but that Vin should follow whoever the owner is. I would assume there is a problem in the communcation from the MVB to GM. At least you got the recall cause you know who sold you the car. Many would never have known.

So I guess its my fault for buying a GM car but not from a GM dealer.

PS Ive been at the dealer for this recall .....to the high tension wire since 8:20 (appointment time ) Its a 5 minute job and its now 9:30 and the car has yet to be looked at ..........

Yes but is that sufficient? For example, is it satisfactory for GM to "only" contact People in the GMVIS system for the current power steering recall problem?

Perhaps GM should look additional ways to contact current owners such as dealership databases and DMV databases.

See this is how logical this is. I thought this was standard practice, but I guess not. It really needs to be.

ABSOLUTELY!! Why wait for a tragedy!! Hard to believe that this is not a standard practice!
