when applying wax do you guys rub it in or just ???
Hey all....just curious when applying a coat of wax do you guys rub it in in a circular motion or just spread it on in straight lines not pressing hard? Also how many coats of a wax like Mequiers Gold Liquid do you all apply?

i always apply in small circular motion...
layering is great, but you really have to let the wax cure before the next layer. ice cold water wipe down is great between layers. not familiar with meg gold... but i usually do one layer sealant and 2 layer carnauba... if i have the time that is... |

I use a circular motion as well, as long as your applicator and the surface your working on are clean you won't induce any damage.
I use one or the other, sealant or carnauba. I strip the previous before applying the new one. I generally use a sealant in the winter, and carnauba in the summer. You can apply as many coats as you want, but don't over-do it or the wax may haze. I overwaxed my camaro when I quit smoking, I had close to 20 coats of Adam's Americana on there. lol!

As for the application, no pressure should be necessary. The only time I could see using any pressure would be in bug/tar, etc., removal, and only if they cannot be removed easily with a product. As for the number of coats, a good "rule of thumb" would be at least once a year for a car that is not driven daily, or, every 6 months for a daily driver. |

I have learned over the years that with a polishing wax, not a cleaner wax, that the lighter the coat the better. It adheres to the clearcoat better and you get a better finish and protective layer...I always used to apply a heavu coat thinking more is better - definitely not the case.
And I use straight lines, no swirls/circles for me. I've been using Meguiar's Gold Class for a few years now... |
