Borla S-Type Axle Back ???
I just had the s-type axle back installed on my '10 L99 SS and the sound is pretty good for the most part, however I feel like I need a bit more volume.
I'm thinking that I'll just take out the resonator and stock h-pipe and add and x-pipe to start, but I'd like some suggestions on which route to go for the x-pipe. Thanks |

How do you feel at start up and idle? I am seriously considering the L99 as well, but I am concerned about AFM and drone. If it has a good rumble at idle I think I can look past it...I dunno if I like raspy though, some people have mentioned it is more raspy than the S type

I have borla s type axle backs on my ls3. It's seriously too quiet and it sounded like a g35 or a m3, not throaty enough! I got the resonators deleted but it didn't make much difference at all. Then tonight I installed my jba high flow catted midpipes and installed them. Let me tell you these things gave it the perfect growl I was looking for and woke my borlas up!! Those 4 cats is what really quiets this exhaust down. I'm gonna record a video of my exhaust and post up a thread soon. I would have taken a before video but you can almost just compare it to a stock exhaust lol :P

hmm I'm pretty sure they work for both the ls3 or l99. no they work with the stockers, I have stock everything except the midpipes and axleback borlas.

They should work on both the L99 and LS3, the problem that I have heard from other L99 owners is headers or LT obviously amplify the sound but also amplify drone/AFM. You should have minimal issues with drone on the S type...

I'm starting my research of exhaust to put on my future Camaro 2SS automatic, and from all the videos Borla Stingers (S-type same thing?) seem to have that low growl V8 sound I'm after.
But these midpipes you guys mention seem like a great addition, but is it street legal to replace the cats, will it pass smog checks etc without replacement every time? Since youtube isn't quite real life, any experience from reality hearing deep sounding exhausts besides the Borlas with midpipes (is that the same as X-pipe by the way?)? Thanks, trying to learn ahead of time here... |

they really are almost a must if you get borla s type because the exhaust itself is not loud but I love the tone. adding catted midpipes or something else like long tubes gets it louder while keeping a great all around sound. The carted high flow midpipes I hear will not pass the visual inspection if the guy sniffing knows what he's looking for. I live in the the San Francisco area but I put em on anyway. Don't need a smog for 5 years and I can just reinstall stockers when I do need a smog.

Ok, thanks. Forgot to ask about warranty - does removing the cats or putting on non-street legal midpipes with other cats void the warranty or anything else negative, besides the risk of a fine I guess if inspected?
