Speedometer Recalibration $

How much does it cost to get your speedometer recalibrated due to gears? (3.91)

A guy in columbia says he will do mine for $150, which is a lot considering i have to travel two hours.

How much do they typically go for? All I want is a recalibration, not a full tune.

It really depends on Auto or Manual.

Manual is easy, and you have to consider there is usually licencing involved that adds to the cost of Labor.

Auto Not so Much, Every Gear up and down, every lock up point up and down, Every WOT shift RPM up and down, Every WOT Shift Speed Up and down in all three modes must be calibrated.

It is a ton of work on an Auto.

Ted.

It's just a manual

Camaro Corvette Tuner in Tampa

Either Manual or Automatic its easy to do in HP Tuners.

If your calibrator like me, I license vehicles to my interface with unlimited access by year and models. I have an unlimited interface for the GM V8 Cars I can calibrate from 1997 to 2013 through HP Tuners. The Camaro, Corvette, and GTOs are my high volume business vehicles, so what he's charging you isnt a bad price and shouldnt take more than 15 minutes.

For you Do It Yourself folks with HP Tuners, all you have to do is pull up the Speedo tab, Click Speedometer and you'll see two windows for current and new.

Enter your new tire size (if it changed or old size if it didnt) and your new gear ratio.

Click the auto scale transmission tables YES and click commit.
Manual no further adjustments needed and your speedometer will be on target.

For the Automatic guys, same thing and after you click commit, HP Tuners will automatically rescale all your shift points for you for the new tire size and gears.

If you dont like your old shift points with your new gears, Yes it will take the work Ted wrote about, but at least your 95% closer to your target and will save you hours of time.

Why don't you just get a mail order tune. Where in SC are you at. Why don't you PM me. I think I know who you are talking about.

If you want to make the drive to Savannah, GA I can do it for you for the cost of credits in HPTuners ($100), along with any other minor changes you might want or need (Speed limiter, RPM limiter, skip shift, torque management delete, etc)

We calibrate speedometers locally and mail order for $50. Mail order tunes are $250. Dyno tunes are $400. We are in Mooresville NC which is just a touch north of Charlotte. Let us know if we can help you.

I did a rear gear change on an automatic Friday. $75 to clean up is shift points after the install. He was a client from last year and I like to cut them slack on pricing for returning to me.

I have teds tune, changed from a stock 20 in tire to a 19 in with low profile tire. How much to get the speedo updated? Manual car. Would it be point less or even possible for me to go back to stock and have the dealer update speedo then reinstall tune or would the tune overwrite the speedo portion? Thanks I will also send an email to Ted.

Should be a quick fix for ted to do to your tune.

SSMickey 05-05-2013 10:51 AM

Your tune will over write the stock file. Your going to have to update the tune you have now. We did mine Friday night and it took all of 5 minutes to do. If your updating the tire size, measure the height of the tire installed on the vehicle with weight on the tire. DO NOT use the tire height published on line. A good example of this is the stock SS tire size is listed at 28.7, but in the stock tune file, it is listed as 27.79.
