Weight Reduction?

Is there a list of mods specifically tailored to drop the weight out of these heavy 5th gens.?

Of course brallie batteries is a common mod and can drop about 10-15lbs.

Are there any companies making k-members, control arms, 2-piece rotors, Driveshaft, solid rear?

Factory mufflers are heavy...

Forged wheels ...

Here's an interesting weight savings idea. http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87589

Hi obzidian, We various ways to cut fat off the Gen 5 Camaro. I have tubular k-members, working on the rear tubular axle cradle, we are offering a straight axle conversion. If you have any question , give me a call.

Excellent... will check the site out.

My brother and pops both have 5th gens and I'm trying to convince them to build something to deal with those pesky 5.0's!

A.

EDIT: I remember you guys from camaro5fest. I was the lone Z06 in the sea of f-body's!

PM sent!

Hi JL88, The K-members are 29lbs lighter and yes they are on the market already. I have so several units already. Thanks for the inquiry..

Racing Brake makes 2-piece brake rotors that are about 6 lbs lighter each than the stock ones (for the SS with Brembos):

A set of Pedder's Xa coilovers are 20 lbs lighter than the stock shocks and coils.

Replacing the factory exhaust with a 3" catback system should knock another 25-30 lbs off depending on what you get.

I'm trying to find an affordable 1-piece carbon fiber driveshaft; waiting on a couple of possibilites. That should save about 10-12 lbs of unsprung rotational weight.

Getting 2 or 3 piece forged rims in a 20 or 19" size can save about 6-10 lbs per corner.

In addition to what was already mentioned, several companies make carbon fiber body panels. The factory seats are pretty heavy so switching to some Sparco Evos or some other racing seat would help. GForce is coming out with aluminum and carbon fiber one-piece driveshafts which will save you a few pounds.

The factory driveshaft is already aluminum and weighs about 18 lbs but it's a 2-piece. A 1-piece carbon fiber would not only reduce unsprung rotational weight, but improve efficiency which would see a bit more horsepower getting to the rear wheels.

Depends how extreme you want to go, remove wipers/sprayer system use rainx instead, remove airbag system, use racing seats and harness, racing steering wheel, remove hood blanket, remove engine cover

JusticePete 06-22-2010 05:31 PM

ARH headers will save you about 25 pounds. Pedders coilovers about 25 pounds.

ArkySS 06-22-2010 07:21 PM

Heck I saved 44 pounds on exhaust alone! Without the headers!
