Automatic faster than the manual???

According to a post from Edmunds Inside Line.................

"According to Oppenheiser, the new 300-horsepower 3.6-liter V6-equipped Camaro will run from zero to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds regardless of transmission choice. The V6 coupe will cover the quarter-mile in 14.5 seconds with an auto and 14.7 seconds with a manual, both at 97 mph. The brakes don't sound quite as impressive, though, as Oppenheiser said the base Camaro stops from 60 to zero mph in 132 feet.

Not surprisingly, the V8-equipped Camaro SS delivers better numbers across the board. Chevy's Camaro SS outfitted with the 422-hp 6.2-liter LS3 V8 six-speed manual hits 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and runs a 13.4-second quarter-mile at 108 mph according to Oppenheiser. Strangely enough, Oppenheiser also claims that the automatic-equipped SS Camaro, which is rated at 400 hp, runs from zero to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and through the quarter-mile in 13.3 seconds. "We optimized the shift points," he said.

Both versions of the V8 Camaro SS pull a maximum 0.90 g on the skid pad. Four-piston Brembo brakes help stop the Camaro SS in 117 feet."

automatics lately have had better gear ratios for acceleration then manuals. look at the sky's. the auto is faster 0-60. . .

Wow not the performance number I was hoping for. I hope that the SS (Camaro) manual can manage something better than that! 13.4 1/4, not even close to cutting it for me!:iono: :mad0259: :yikes: :mad0260:  :barf: :help: :upset: :sm4:

you remember that 01 and 02 were only rated at 13.2-13.5 but yet some people are getting 12.8's and 12.9's out of them? it all depends on where they're doing the testing (altitude), winds, temp, and most importantly driver. but expect better numbers once it's released.

Doesn't the Mustang GT run like a 13.5 or something close to that?

I am trying to stay positive, but those numbers are socking even if it is the first test!

and this car weights 400 lbs more then a stock 98 z28. . .expect it to be a little faster with rated horsepower almost 100 more. . .

Thats insaine. how can the auto be that much faster? that cant be right.

even the DCT transmission in an M3 is only .1 faster than the manual... and thats the best auto tranny in the world!!!

Well. im all about speed, and now im in a hard spot. ive never owned a manual car before and was really looking forward to this being my first, but i dont know if thats locked in with the performance being so much poorer than the auto... UGGGGGGGGGGGGGH

Most pro drag cars use automatic or powerglide transmissions. no clutch pedal = faster shifts. Only thing faster could be F1 paddleshifts. That's still pretty much automatic shifting though. You're just telling it when to shift instead of shifting the gears manually.

I hope they got some orangatang with no knowladge of gears or launch control to test these cars.
