Suspension & Tires

|The FI section has slowed to a crawl without the likes of Jamie & his crew, Slowhawk reports and JRE saved the day remote tune style...

Let's spark some conversation with setups, I'm curious on you street guys making 550+whp .. What suspension modifications have you done? What's the best tire you've ran on the street to balance your power + decent tread life? >200 treadware, netting at least 10+K ODO??? I've heard so many different opinions, I see it best getting info directly from folks with similar set ups vs causal LS owners.

NT05 , Michelin PP are awesome but are they with 600+ pressing on them... My buddy hates his Invo's, others love them. Same goes for the Bridgestone RE11, BFGoodrich Rival, Kuhmo XS etc... What set ups have yielded you the best results, and which will you never go back to?

2011 SS - Maggy, low 520's ..
Going back in for cam, 3.4 etc, expecting low 600's.

Dropped on 1.25 Hotchkis / BMR toe rods + trail arms.

Shit*y 295/40/20 tires net suspect traction at current power, will no doubt be issue after cam and pulley down.

I have BMR toe rods and trailing arms, Cradle/upper control arm/trailing arm bushings and no hop and seems to do fine on street tires, never had any stickys on it though. I run 295/30/22 Excelera Iota tires and although they are cheap they do pretty good as long as the temps are 40*^. I have MT 305/45/18 DRs but haven't bought any Vette wheels yet.

Stock suspension currently.. Been DD'ing 305/35/20 NT05R's, I actually bought them used with still got 6500 miles out of them with (15+) track passes. Previous owner said he had I think 30 passes and a few street miles on them. I'm happy with the use I got from them.

That being said, I wasn't happy with the 60' times I was cutting so 15" wheels, BMR drag suspension, and a nice set of sticky mickey's are on the way..

Bo, what's your power level? Any other driveline upgrades?

Did the NT05R's see any rain days? If so how'd they act? What 60 times were you stuck at if you don't mind sharing?

1.25 Phadt Springs, BMR toes and trailing arms, BMR Diff bushings and DD on 295/40R18 Nitto 555s and Weld RTS wheels. Traction is pretty good but I haven't been running it long enough to tell if its going to last 15K miles. 565rwhp on 3.8 pulley and 607 rwhp on 3.3 pulley.

ddck24 03-04-2014 07:51 PM

Bmr drag suspension (chromoly lowers, trailing arms, strange coilovers Xtreme anti roll bar)
Weld wheels w MT et street II's
Haven't been to the track yet.. Hoping for some 1.70s ish
Mickeys are still useless on the street until about 70mph

Have you ran any other Nitto tires by any chance for comparison ?

Plenty of rain. Was scary at first from what I've read, but never had any issues. Just take it easy on the gas and stay out of it around turns

Sorry, my best 60' was 1.85 but with clutch issues too.

Im currently running the full Pedders Track2 Xa Supercar aka Pedders Justice road course package. Supercar coilovers, all HD bushings, upgraded 12kg coils.

Also running Pedders ZL1 sways and Pedders adjustable camber plates.

Also running 4 x 305/30 R19 Pilot Supersports on Forgeline DE3P wheels, i was running the RE-11 Potenzas.

CTS-V 6 piston calipers

My car has been set up to run the road course and street, no real plans to run the 1/4.

Was at 758whp with the D1 but car is now getting twin PTE6766 turbos custom built. Looking at 20 or so PSI and should be between 1000-1100 whp at this mild boost level. Car should be done in about 3 weeks hopefully then will run it at Eagles Canyon Raceway using a boost controller to limit boost to only 8psi on the track.

With the D1SC even with setting the coilovers for drag, the car had no grip past 1/2 throttle 1st - 3rd and limited grip in 4th at 3/4 throttle.

HOpefully with the turbos the boost controller will help with this. I will run a BoostLeash boost by gear controller and plan on 1st-8 psi, 2nd-12 psi, 3rd-15psi and 4th at 20+

Here is a thread Justice Pete made after my last visit down to Pedders.

Awesome build man, damn near perfectly balanced machine you have there; 305's up front tuck nicely up front! Sticking with the PP's? Any other plans to maximize traction if the Pilots don't stick, just the boost controller?

Mr. Nasty 03-04-2014 09:36 PM

Running pfadt toe rod & trailing arms also pfadt solid cradle bushing with bmr diff bushing. And tires don't last long first set nitto555r on the 20s about 50 passes and 2500 highway miles. Then 305/45/18 MT did get well over 50 passes and about 2500 highway miles. Running slicks only at the track now. With the nitto best 60' 1.57 with MT 60'1.51 and on slicks 1.52. I have been at 633RWHP / 544TQ about a month now was at 586/525 for 2 years new best time is 10.38 @ 133

Thanks! I will give the PSS a chance on the road course and see how they do. dont want to go Rcompounds.....dont want to starve the top half of the motor of oil by sticking too well in corners.

As for goofing around on the streets, i will see what help the BoostLeash gives me with my current wheels/tires. I have been meaning to get a set strip tires, maybe cheapo Vette wheels with MT ET streetII or maybe 17" welds with the same tires.

My suspension is pretty flexible as is and having dual adjustable coilovers is a nice benefit when switching from a track setting to a strip setting.

I just need to get the damn car back!:D
