3.91s in an a6 ss

I was wondering how well the 3.91s from the 1le would perform if I put them in my ss. Thanks for the input

Traction will be an issue.

How so?

1st gear will be very steep. 2nd gear will start getting good.

Also if you start adding power to the car it will get worse.

I would imagine a good set of tires and a good tune would put you in the green. I don't think it would be much different than say 18" tires but that's just a guess.

Well I am getting better tires so that should def help. But there should be no problems other than traction?

You should read the sticky "rear end gears 101." I think your 1st gear would be wasted. The auto SS should go with 3.73. I wouldn't experiment with anything higher given the expense of this modification, because it will be just as expensive to undo it.

Have you tried hooking up with stock rear diff and stock tires yet? You'll find the 3.27 doesn't have a problem spinning a tire.

I changed out my diff to 3.91's and holy sh!t did it make a huge difference. The driving band is so much better in all gears and it pulls like a raped ape! Best mod I ever did so far....my gas mileage has not suffered a bit...

Good to know! How about your tune? Do you have a thread on your experience specifically? I'd like to see the whole process to learn how/what to do/not to do. Thanks!

They'll be hard to hook WOT in 1st and maybe 2nd on street tires, but I woudn't mind more gear when I'm cruising at 50-60mph. Going WOT then is not always impressive. :)
