ratios
Does any one know the gear ratios of the 6 speed manual transmission for the 2011 Camaro SS? The rear is 3.70 I believe. I wonder what 4:11s would do?

The stock rear end in the M6 SS has 3.45. Give this article a read.

This is a great write up, thank you!

Yeah the driveshaft is spinning faster for every turn of the wheel not the other way around. 4.11 gears means the driveshaft turns 4.11 times to every wheel turn. That is where the torque comes from.
The first time I changed rear gears was in a 92 mustang gt, wow what an experience. Never realized how nasty axle grease was. The car felt completely different after the swap. Went from 2.73 to 3.73. When I calibrated the mustangs speedometer I had to use a speedo gear that was on a linkage to the tranny. I am still trying to figure out how you electronically do it now to a 5th gen camaro. I guess you buy a tuner kit to calibrate it? |
Thx for info

Hey Chase, I'm still looking into the gear swap... I read the link you've posted here, then read your post as well. It is my understanding that the V6 M6 has the 3.27 gears as noted in the "linked" article. By adding the 3.55 gears from Richmond, we can expect torque gains of approximately 9% or 27.3 ld.-ft. of torque and will raise 70 MPH cruising RPM to 2167. This article is in contrast to what you've posted so I'm just trying to get some clarification. I agree, if the 2012 model year has 3.45's then it wouldn't be worth the dollars. If the 2012 model year has 3.27's it just might be time to switch them out. One more question, what are the speeds in first gear with the 3.55 before shifting into second, normal street driving. I've had my car for just over a year now, if I'm running 3.45's I'd be surprised because I can't be beyond 20 mph before having to shift.
