1LE build and Journal - SUKXOST [COTW 12/31/12]

HEEERE, WEEE, GO. BTW..."SUKXOST" = (suck exhaust) :P

What's up, my name is Brandon. I'm a SSG in the US Army; currently in VA. Loved the Camaro since it came out but not until extensive reading on the 1LE did I pull the trigger. Trading up from a white turbocharged Cobalt SS(315WHP/339WTQ).

Many other mods throughout thread but below are some of the highlights:
See post #37 on page 2 for first pics/vids of my car on day of delivery

See post #105 on page 5 for start of actual build pics and baseline dyno graph @ 378WHP/377WTQ

See post #151 on page 7 for finished dyno sheet and youtube of dyno @ 577/578(since retuned)

See post #362 on page 15 for a new tune dyno @ 577/585 and a few new cosmetic mods

See post #407 AND 420 on page 17 for a cam/spring set/rods install and video...tuned to 645WHP/597WTQ

See post # 477 on page 20 for possibly the first ever 3D vinyl mod

See post #518 on page 21 for a time lapse vinyl removal video

Shout outs so far go to:

Jessika & Brian @ http://www.superchargerconnection.com/
I CANNOT begin to express enough thanks to Brian and especially Jessika. Her specific knowledge and great reputation still doesn't give her enough respect. She answered emails, phone calls and PM's well after hours(knowing I'm eager to get my build done ASAP and needed info/parts ASAP). She is truly there for her customers and for her willingness to help.....I ordered EVERY SINGLE PART I listed above(minus the Pfadts) through her and Brian as they kept in touch with each other and helped me beyond what service I've ever got through a "vendor".
 http://www.superchargerconnection.com :respekt:

Jeff at Carolina Auto Masters:
http://www.carolinaautomasters.com/index.php
Jeff has been AWESOME and very informative. Offered to let me have all parts delivered direct to his shop as I'm 120ish miles away and no way I could fit everything in my car. He gave me a great quote and very knowledgeable. Stated that knowing his customers and their cars is more important to him than just pushing out tons of cars. He's very familiar with Gen5's and has built MANY of them. He recommended parts and tuning specifics for my build goals and the nicest guy you can imagine! Thanks again Jeff and I'll see you in a few weeks with my 1LE :P

Chase @ Apex:
Great deal on 2 sets of drop springs(a buddy and I)shipped. Great guy and very helpful, Thanks man!

Dave @ http://www.activeinterchiller.com/
contact him @ dspurlo1@tampabay.rr.com
He gave me a great deal(through Jessika)and gave me some great intel vs the RX version and the decision was clear to me that his product and service is superior. I'm so excited to get it installed on my 1LE :P Thanks again Dave!

So what is the chiller for, not familiar with how it works and what it does? Also, is the need for the catch can because of the supercharger?

Looking forward to this upcoming week man, hopefully with our cars built.

The chiller works with your AC unit and significantly decreases your intake temps to help eliminate heat soak and help with maintaining HP :P

Yes, boosted cars are seemingly more and more in need of a catch can as I've seen many threads of evidence and people swearing by them.

Yep, just days now instead of WEEKS :P

Brandon, thank you for the kind words. You definitely brought a smile to my face this morning. I pride myself on my customer service & attention to detail. It is customers like you that make my job fun & exciting. Too many people hunt for the absolute lowest price, buy something & are never heard from again. I hate that! Your enthusiasm and drive truly makes it all worth it.

I look forward to watching your build and helping in any way I can! We are glad that CAM is working out for you!!! I know he's built some badass rides!

Thank you again for your support!
Thank you again for your service to our country! (Inauguration?! How cool is THAT)

You're very welcome. Keep me in mind as I'll need rockers/springs next yr sometime but we already have some identified that you can get me possibly. This build is gonna be great. I just hope that this detail will allow me to get away and be as much as a part of the build as I can.

I wanna learn about the car as it's built and take pics and vids and post results/dyno sheets. Give feedback and be able to answer questions that people will undoubtedly have for me. Jeff said it will take a full two days and possibly into a 3rd so I'm going to try to get some leave approved and schedule the build about mid Dec. That way I can get a bunch of heat cycles through the car and some break in miles.

Thanks for the subscriptions guys! I'm happy to see there is legitimate interest beyond my own with my 1LE "build". This is going to be fun and I'll answer any and all questions in as much detail as I can.
I didn't get a VIN today but maybe tomorrow :P

My 1LE was "built and bayed" 10/16. I'm TOLD the NLT delivery date is set as 10/26.

Here are the options I added to my 1LE:
2SS
RS Package
7" Touch screen navigation
ZL1 dual mode exhaust
Premium Sound
Interior pedals/cup holder illumination

MSRP when I built my car on Chevy came to $45,195.

Invoice price on my car directly off the invoice is $42,697.81.

I'll be paying $41,819.94 (ish)

Not too shabby :P

Hi Warfighter Brandon:army: ,

I'm an Army Civilian, so God bless your work in the field for all of us! Your evolving 1LE will be an interesting story of progress in what's possible for our cars. Alas, my 1LE will remain mostly stock for a while as it's my daily driver to the Depot. I'm sure that your progress will affect what I do to my car, so I'll watch and learn. My main interest at first will be your CAI system. I really like those headers you've chosen, too. Will headers by themselves void the warranty?

Good luck with your beautiful car, and I'll be watching! :emoticon12:

I guess I'll keep a baseline for you, as I'll run autocross with mine stock for a while. :character0182:

Take care out there!:party0038:

Without a doubt! Especially if I get sent to D.C. this week and the car shows up and I'm tons of miles away(waiting on funding approval to go work for the Presidential Inauguration Committee until late Jan)

I briefly looked at them but right off, I don't like the appearance of them.
I also didn't like that the kit comes with 52lb injectors(too small)
Additionally, for $7K it was too much for that kit when I got my TVS shipped to my door for $5,500.

Thanks for the subscription! I'll post as many pics as I can and hope to make a few people decide on things that they may want to do to theirs

Thanks for your kind words Tara  My entire build will take "2 days and maybe into a third". Depending on if I can get a few days off to be there for the build, will determine when I'll do the build. Tentatively planned to be done early to mid Dec.

FYI- I didn't get the CAI system, the washer relocation kit I wanted didn't work with CAI so I went with RotoFab intake in all black.

I liked CAIs insulated box for avoiding heatsoak and general appearance but I'll be installing the AI Chiller so I've already solved that problem anyways :P

 again

The headers themselves won't void the warranty but a tune of any kind will. If you don't tune when you get the headers you will most likely get a check engine light. There is a flash counter with the computer so even if you change your tune back to stock when you take it in for warranty work, they will still know.

Your Super Chiller will ship Tuesday, my welder took this past week off with his rock climber in Alabama, Jerry works at his pleasure LOL. The ZR1 and Hummer kits that were ahead of you used my last 90deg custom AN fittings, 2 each, this and surprise missing welder caught me off guard. Most kits only use 1 90deg and one straight.

TVS delivered for $5,500 and $100 off list on Super Chiller, you must know some one!

First E Force I worked with I was impressed with there kit, and wanted to trade my Maggie out for one. Now my experience has me less impressed with them. Don’t get me wrong they put together a clean installation kit. I have a first gen CTS V on the lift now with an E Force over spun on a built LS3 for the Xtreme Chiller Project.

I don’t know if RotoFab has updated there CAI but the ones I have worked with rub on the AC line and make checking AC difficult. This is something very disturbing in my trade.

Good info! Thanks.
Are there any slight angle/bend mods that can be done with your kit to avoid this problem?

P.S. Yeah I might know a couple cool people :happyanim:

The tight fit in picture is factory AC line and normal RotoFab CAI. Relocating washer tank may change this, I don’t know? All the Camaros with RotoFab CAI I have worked on still had the stock washer tank. I’m not purposely bashing RotoFab but as someone who is always working with AC I can tell you technicians don’t like it when they can’t connect there gauges EZ. Nothing with the Super Chiller can change this.

Fair enough....I guess I'll find out during my build and I'll have to try and provide feedback

Partly cost and partly because the 1LE handles so well to begin with I will see how I like the lowering springs first.

What’s the status of your taking delivery? What about build, it must look like Xmas at your house?

Could you not have gotten a ZL1 with all of this? I mean you would have a warranty, magnetic ride, and exterior hotness. To each his own I suppose.

It feels like I could SPIT to my car for how close it is. Everything was put on hold for certain businesses being closed so it did not ship to the dealer yesterday. Likely today but I have to leave to D.C. until the weekend :(
Most of the parts I had directly delivered to my build shop but I'm sure it's quite a lil pile

Just had a lengthy discussion about this on another thread. In short, Anyone with the $ can just BUY performance. I wanted to make the car more of my own and have a say in it. My 1LE delivered to me plus ALL parts & labor for the build, tuning taxes and shipping included for everything.....the whole 9 will cost me $52K. (I ordered just about every single option I could for the 1LE as well!)
That's still a few thousand less than a base ZL1 and several thousand less than a loaded one that doesn't have any customization to it. I've never cared less about a warranty so thats out. I'll be roughly 550WHP or more and the ZL1's have 500WHP(ballpark) The magnetic ride is not a dealbreaker IMO at all. The handling/suspension reviews for the 1LE are BEYOND spectacular so that's a wash for me. I DO love the ZL1 look and CF hood insert/cooling but again not a deal breaker.

All said: cheaper, faster(more HP anyways) and custom to how I want to start my project.....:word:

I was thinking Dual Super Chillers for 650+ HP, you could still do the hidden tank during your install if you want but I was thinking you were using a CAI scoop under air intake. We would have to make sure you have room. I know the Super Chiller fits left side with the big Kenny Bell CAI.

Does your build shop service AC in house?

I think I'll be good with just the single :P I DO have the ADM intake scoop going on under the intake. The shop said that there wouldnt be a problem but I think he said that he has a local shop that can do the freon charge or whatever is necessary.

2 Issues I'm dumbfounded GM didnt' catch:
1:This is my right rear tire....see anything wrong?
http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l45/relkcib/305.jpg
Looks like they slapped on a ZL1 wheel/tire combo on my 1LE...will talk to my local dealership tomorrow and see what they can do.
2:This is what my steering wheel looks like to drive straight :( See anything wrong?

The dealer I picked it up from said GM will not realign a new car until it has 500miles on it. WTF! I'll address this as well.

Anyways, car feels awesome....already have about 150miles on it and I'm in love.
