Proper motor break-in?

Brand new motor. I don't have an owners manual handy, either.

700 to 1,000 miles try not to go higher than 4k rpms thats how i broke in 3 turbo motors and this 13 L99

dekan513 06-19-2013 06:23 PM

break it in like ur gonna drive it . if it wont hold at 5 miles it wont hold at 500. just check for shavings in the oil. if i race a car i break in running it hard.

Have them fill it with joe Gibbs breakin oil!

After 30-50 miles of varying rpms never staying steady but not getting on it at all, change it.

Then after 100 miles of getting on it just a Lil more with proper heat cycles because they are needed for the bearings and springs change it.

Again at 500 and after 500 then it's all yours start beating that biach. At the 500 mile mark is use a good oil like how Gibbs 10-30 or amsoil signature or amsoil zrod or Valvoline vr1 10-30 synthetic.

That's just me I'm sure others have their methods.

Joe Gibbs break in oil and onto the dyno. That's how I do it.

The owners manual will say something like....for 1500 miles, no full throttle starts, no above 4000RPM and no above 100 mph.

If 100 people reply in this post, you will get about 50 different, conflicting answers.

Step 1: Get a couple of Go Pro HD Cameras.

Step 2: Mount one inside. One Outside.

Step 3: Run the ever living piss out of the car.

Step 4: Post videos on this website

Everyone is going to say something different.

For 1 Fu$k the manual break in. It's BS written by overzealous attorneys!

I'm more along the lines of Litle. I did pretty close as he has listed except once I hit 125 miles and took the conventional oil out I was frequently at WOT.

The 1st 500 miles are most important to get the rings seated properly, after that you're golden. My L99 runs like a beast and has 0 oil consumption.

My oil change intervals went like this:

Change to conventional with a high zinc content at 18 miles
125 back to Mobil 1
500 Changed again w/ M1
1500 Changed again w/M1

Now I change every 4K miles.

I don't know where to buy the Joe Gibbs locally. Is there another excellent oil to use that has a lot of Zinc and Phos?

Scott@Bjorn3D 06-20-2013 07:25 PM

First 500 do not go over 4Krpm, then next 500 do not go over 5Krpm. Change oil to Pennzoil Platinum at 1K miles and have fun.

That's what I did.

put the car up on a lift and leave a 50lb weight on the gas pedal all night :)
