Project Cleaning the Clutter in Our Engine Bay

3 Attachment(s)
Hey guys, I thought it be fun if we had a place to share ideas on what we can do to clean up our engine compartments so that they don't look so much like a plumbers convention. I look forward to everybody's input and contribution.

Subscribed , great idea !

MRGOODWRENCH3 12-16-2011 09:58 AM

Here are a few things I have done to clean up the engine compartment. First was to get rid of the engine cover and top intake manifold cover. I installed the TechAFX heater hose kit. It also includes a new fuel line. I polished the fuel rail and rotated it 180degrees.

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE4.jpg

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE2.jpg

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE5.jpg

The Roto-Fab Radiator cover cleans up the top of the radiator.

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE7.jpg

A Katech Billet Belt Tensioner looks better than the factory one.

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE6.jpg

I made a new PCV hose and routed it under the Throttle Body instead of over the top.

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE3.jpg

The cold air intake is by ADM Performance. I think it is the best looking piece on the market. The washer bottle is by Roto-Fab.

http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n...h3/ENGINE1.jpg

Ravener 12-16-2011 10:20 AM

I like what you've done there....but truth be told is doesn't "clear up" the plumbers clutter the OP pointed out regarding our egine bays. Removing the engine cover just exposes the mess beneath lol.

AngelSpeedFreak 12-16-2011 10:33 AM

looking real good. Looks like you actually have a muscle car engine rather than a piece of plastic :)

ackeight 12-16-2011 10:34 AM

The only thing else that mr good wrench could do is a coil relocation kit and get some new valve covers. you really can't do much else unless you are going to do some major surgury. ADM did a build where they moved the fuse box out of sight and that really cleaned to motor bay up some, but that is pricey.

PAUL SS 12-17-2011 04:43 PM

I cleaned mine up by using 2012 Camaro heater hoses, flipped the fuel rail 180 degrees, removed the intake manifold cover and powder coating the coil brackets. In the next month I will make a few more changes.

Clean, no. Don't allow it to get dirty, yes.

Looking for thoughts on powder coating the stock intake in a "wrinkle Black' finish. It will be subtle but slightly different than factory. Perhaps a more cast aluminum look. I'm going for a industrial high tech look. Not to showing or Bling.

Some thing like this: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=110331

Let's hear it.

It's not metal, can it be powder coated? I thought of painting mine but thought better of it. If it started to peel or flake it would look like crap and I would have to pull it off and clean it up.

I was thinking the same thing....... that you couldn't powder coat the intake because it isn't metal and wouldn't withstand the 400 degree of baking neccessary. But apparently this company has it figure out. They do alot of work in the corvette community.

I did what alot of other guys here have done.

But I routed the wires where it splits around the oil fill cap to what I believe is a better position.

Also mounted the evap solenoid to the ECM tower which I haven't seen anyone else do yet.

haha... The hood seems to do a great job of that. I was installing my maggie last weekend and was amazed at how clean the engine was considering that I had never actually cleaned it before :headbang:

Look up mike the powdercoater in the vendor section. He is the one that does everyone's calipers. He also powdercoats the LS intakes.

ron10 12-20-2011 05:09 PM

to me , it looks better to just leave the engine cover on . problem solved.

$300 is absurd

Well, I got my flat black powder coated polish and ported throttle body today. I actually mail them my last Wednesday and received it today. Great turn around time.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...9/photo2-3.jpg

I installed it and the car ran great. But I'm not sure if I feel any difference on the throttle response on the butt dyno. I order 4 ARP stainless blot to replace the OEM. I guess at least it will look good, LOL.

I got mine back together today got the second T/B and the valve covers back from powder coat. Installed the headers while it was down got some Russell classic black traded hose and re routed the oil catch can hoses. Cleaned up the wiring on the passenger side and for the coils. Also installed a set of JBA 8mm plug wires and a set of pulstar adi1 iridium plugs. No problem with the T/B this time. I'v got a polished cover for the brake fluid reservoir and a billet tentioner pulley on the way, and a few other things to get after that. Oh and add a 3 piece front and fender filler panels and yea I'm going to black out around the rubber hood stops.

Moreno1 12-21-2011 02:52 AM

Roctrux, holly Shix man! You have been busy. What a difference since your last update. I like the little touches like the red bolts on the trottle body and coil packs. With the all the red white and blue action going on, I feel I should stand up and solute it, LOL. Very nice job all around, congrats.:thumbsup:

By the way, what did you do for the dip stick? Me like.

:sm0: Thanks I just painted the top of it silver to get rid of the ugly yellow. I should of took the tube to powder coat to but I didn't think about it till I was about to pick up the other stuff, I like the idea of powder coating the manifold I'm going to talk to my powder coat guy about doing mine.

Roto-Fab.....

Bluffen 12-21-2011 10:48 AM

Where did you get that piece to cover the radiator? Did it already come IBM?

Nasty1970 12-21-2011 10:51 AM

each to their own....but I personally dont see the point in doing anything under the hood, it still looks like a plastic monster took a dump in there....the only thing I would be proud to "show" off would be some nice fat turbos or a Whipple supercharger. Other than that, there's nothing different about anything under the hood, and if there is, its just coloring. Now the older cars, with no vacuum lines, no plasticky stuff, can look good to me....but again, just a personal preference.

 that's plastic monster crapping analogy couldn't be truer and is really funny stuff! Cleaning up the engine compartment might not win you the Detroit Ridler award but beats looking at the factory plastic cover.

I use to clean under my hood but that leaves less time for driving. :D

Parts are starting to come in!:happyanim:

Powder coated coil relocation brackets.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...19/0000000.jpg

Black anodized rails with no logo on them.
http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/000000.jpg

Silicone radiator hose. Will need to cut down to size. I'm replacing them because when I installed the Vararam, the need to push the radiator forward crimps the factory hose.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...7319/00000.jpg

These are the clamps I'm using.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...319/0000-1.jpg

The coil harness on the top is the factory unit. The one below redesign version. This is a prototype and not the final rendition.

http://i1231.photobucket.com/albums/...9/fb69f834.jpg

Still waiting on many part before I can start the long journey. Cool new product coming from Techafx, replacing all the intakes and throttle body bolts with 12 point ARP stainless bots, Mallory black wires, relocating the battery ground cable to the drivers side, Katech valve covers, etc....stay tune.

Guys, just wanted to give thanks to all the Camaro5 members who have been so generous in freely helping me with their time, knowledge and advice. This is one great community! The tremendous amount of time I have saved by piggy backing off your experience is HUGE. Not to mention, the grief and aggravation I've been spared by avoiding costly mistakes. For this I'm very thankful and grateful!!! I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go, so thanks again in advance.

The name of this thread is "Project Cleaning Up Our Engine Bay and not "My engine Bay" for a reason. I see it as a community effort where we all share each of our projects, ideas, pictures, thoughts, suggestions, inspirations, questions, etc...... Just as I've benefited from certain members in this community, my thinking behind this thread is for all to benefit. This will also keep our pioneers from having to answer the same questions over and over individually. So I encourage all who have made changes, have ideas, thoughts, advice, pictures, etc... to please post here.

For those who rather just keep the factory plastic cover, that's cool too, just no need to reiterate. :w00t:
