Muffler delete

I finally heard today a ss with muff. delete.something around 80 bucks..sounds really good. ..I failed to ask if there was any drone.. that would be my question if there is any...

shawn18 02-07-2011 09:13 PM

I dont think so. I have the Magnaflow comp series axle back which is the same thing and I really like it and have no noticable drone.

MillerTime 02-07-2011 10:19 PM

Yes their is drone unless you add the Hemholtz style pipe in parallel with the exhaust. a quick search will pop up what people have done to eliminate that problem. I believe 28" was the length used...

Rockslam 02-08-2011 12:23 AM

Drone is very minimal on the LS3 anyhow. I don't notice it much more than stock exhaust cruising at 80-85 mph. Best $125 spent on this car yet!

Etherij 02-08-2011 12:37 AM

You'll be impressed w/ how it sounds.. until Mr. Big Cam and long tubes come rolling by. :iono:

It was nice with a little drone until you get LT's then the drone is horible at 1800 - 2000 RPM range

Muffler Delete

Just had this done last week. I have the L99 and had the resonator and mufflers hacked off, straight cheap-a$$ pipe to replace the missing garbage and... AWESOME!!

Really sounds nice. Sounds even better when I use the tap-to-shift.

I will be going with an x-pipe, CAI and tune later on. Gotta kill the AFM. Sounds like a$$ when she shifts from 8 to 4cyl.

BTW, It is loud. My neighbor (across the street) informed me that he knows everytime I'm leaving my house.

Is there any performance gains with a muffler delete or is it pretty much just sound?

CamaroCowboy 02-08-2011 10:11 AM

maybe a little because of less restrictive flow but not enough to even think about it.

CamaroCowboy 02-08-2011 10:11 AM

exhaust modifications are 98% sound and 1% looks and 1% performance. The way i see it anyway. Not counting LT's or High Flow Cats.

thats about right. i might give 5% to looks because of the stock mufflers and the way they look

I haven't really noticed a power improvement...

MaRoFreK 02-08-2011 10:47 AM

Thats what I figured. lol

Drone is a frequency that is diffrent for everybody. I have Kooks long tubes, high flow cats, and muffler delete and everybody that hears my car loves it and says it isnt that loud but alot of people on here think its to loud but it's not loud untill your WFO and that is when you want it loud. Dont take advice off the internet for something that is diffrent for every person. Find somebody around you that has what your looking for and I am pretty sure they will be happy to give you a ride and show off their ride and you can form your own opinion.

CamaroCowboy 02-08-2011 11:58 AM

I didn't mind the drone as i almost never drove at that RPM range however my wife made me buy an aftermarket exhaust becase she was tired of it.

ColdCamaroSS 02-08-2011 12:02 PM

When I was stock (muffler delete) I had very minimal drone at 2k. Since long tubes, Cam and high flow cats, it has been zero. Still have stock h-pipe.

CamaroCowboy 02-08-2011 12:04 PM

Most likely the cam moved the frequency to a better suited one.

Not really enough to tell a difference. The stock cats suck IMO. Pissed me off when I saw 2 on each side.

Just an option for people guys. Of course if you have time and a muffler shop local that will do it for $100, then I've personally said that's a deal in other threads and would continue to say so.

Enjoy all!
