SPi and Livernois team up to make BIG power with a little D1 *VIDEO ADDED!!*

One of are good customers came to us in September and decided he wanted more cubes and alot more power and still be able to use his D1 Procharger. We teamed up with Livernois motorsports to build us an awesome LSX LS7 429 iron block with 9.1 comp. The engine has C&C ported LSX LS7 cylinder heads with comp valve job, stainless valves, dual springs, custom grind cam , LS7 intake manifold, and of course an SPi custom tune.

His car already had the following parts. Dynatech 1 7/8" long tube headers , MBRP 3" exhaust, Livernois dual fuel pump, Stage 2 procharger D1 kit,ATC stage 3 clutch, hurst shifter, hotchkis race pack suspension, SPi billet trailing arms. With a 3.45" pulley and 13 LBS of boost the car made 924 RWHP and 840 RWTQ on pump gas.:confused0068: We are very happy with how the engine turned out, Livernois has a great C&C program these LSX heads flow like crazy. There is still some more power left on the table but we hit the limits of the fuel system......for now.

Congrats on your new beast Chris, we are all surprised at how well your D1 handled the extra cubic inches. These are the biggest #'s we have ever tuned a D1 to and our proud we had the opportuinity to make this dream a reality for you. Now start saving for that F1 and let's really crank it up!

Wow, when i was researching a 416 stroker to use with my D1 everyone said i would have to go with an F1 head unit to make my goal of 850RWHP. Even Procharger said the D1 would not be enough to fill the bigger cubes of a 416.

This is encouraging. I was still gonna go with my D1 on the new motor and use it for a while till it gave out than upgrade head units. My plan is a 416 with 9.5 to 9.8:1 CR making 515 or so RWHP NA and running the D1 up to about 12 PSI. My calculations said i should get at least 800 RWHP. I would be pretty happy with that!

Congrats on that level with the little D1. I knew it could be done.:w00t:

The proof is in the pudding; time and time again SPI has produced the most awesome results with the ProChargers. Thanks, SPI you guys are awesome.

Drew how many pulleys were left? And, if you had to guess; F1-(n) and 110# injectors what kind of crazy #'s do you think we would make?

Andrew@SPItuning 01-09-2012 07:34 PM

D1

The D1 is a very capable head unit for most people. It tends to get pushed to the side in favour of the F series blowers, but when used properly with a good intercooler and proper tuning, it can produce big reliable #'s.

That being said, I would prefer if this setup did have an F1R, that way we could wastegate it like some of our other big centifugal setups and make BIG torque a little lower in the RPMs. We did try a wastegate on this combo but the D1 just didn't have the CFM to support it above 5500rpm. But I guess there is nothing to complain about when you're over 800ft/lbs from 4500rpm and beyond

With a more potent fuel system I think we would have neared the 1000 mark, but for sure the D1 would have been working over time. On it's current setup, the head unit would reach max impeller rpm at 6900 rpm.

Our shop car has a P1, and we were told we would never make power with that.......we have made 668rwhp on 6.8 psi, again with room to grow, but are happy with that for now, and to be honest, never have time to work on the shop car much. Chris was told by many that his D1 would never work on a larger displacement engine, but here we are, 900+ isn't too bad.;)
Thanks again to Livernois-they really built us a badass engine

F1R, awesome fuel system, and E85 or 110 octane.............you're right Chris, crazy #'s.

calbert1999 01-09-2012 07:44 PM

For sure, we can't forget the engine, credit to Livernois it was worth the planning, special touch, and the wait.

Now can't wait until the guages get here and we finish her up. I might be able to get in some joy rides considering the weather has been so nice.
