Trunk Knocking

Has anyone else head the knocking sound coming from the trunk when you cold start the car and the coolant temp reaches about 140 degrees. It is 5 consecutive knocks followed by a single knock about a minute after. It happens every time :iono:

I have heard a tapping sound a couple of times. Someone explained what it was a while back, but of course I forget now. Normal operation.

haha good the first time it happened i thought someone was tapping on my trunk or a tree branch fell since no one was there. that walk to see if there was any damage on the car from a damm branch scared me.

I don't have my car yet so I can't say, but my Saturn does this. After a drive somewhere I'll park hear like 4-5 knocks come from the trunk. Sounds like someone tapping a drumstick on a wooden table. It doesn't happen every time.... but definitely strange.

I forget exactly what it is but I believe it has to do with the fuel pump

I have heard this too. I know it's normal, but what is it that causes this?

Fuel system check or something like that. It's normal.

queenz700xx 03-16-2012 09:16 AM

thats good to know. i had a feeling it had something to do with the fuel system

Deke736 03-16-2012 09:20 AM

Did you let the trunk monkey out? Sometimes they need a break. It gets stuffy in there! :bellyroll::bellyroll::bellyroll:

HumanWiki 03-16-2012 09:26 AM

Normal. It is your fuel recovery system operating.

I had the same question a few weeks ago, and someone on the board knew what I was talking about. Said it was the EVAP system. I hear it also. Nothing to worry about, it's normal.

Not a single Shunt joke??? I'm appalled!

Everyone here knows damned well what that noise is ;)
