Looking For A Good Shop Heater
Any suggestions for a good "shop" heater? I want to hook my dad up with a good heater for his basement/garage so he can work on his chevelle and truck without freezing.
Preferably electric and won't break the bank. This will be for a 3 car garage that is big enough for 4 cars in terms of space. Thank you. |
I would go with a propane heater. The heating elements in them are better than electrics and they are way safer than kerosene.

How about a heater that burns used motor oil. Been a few years since I looked at them, don't know if they do synthetic.
Or if there's free wood, you could do a wood stove if he has room. 1200+ sq ft is a lot to try to heat with a small electric heater. |
Propane or natural gas depending on were you live.

You can build a wood burner out of 2 55 gal drums suppose to really good lots of radiant heat

I have a "Mr. Heater" it works great out in the Garage. It's just a single burner that screws right on to a propane tank.

I just installed Mr. Heater Big Maxx 45K BTU unit. The unit hangs from the ceiling, runs on natural gas connected to a wall mounted thermostat set on 50 degrees. I would highly recommend it and wish I had installed this years ago.

I would go with a gas F/A heater that fits between the 16" 2X4's - it will direct vent out the back.
Set the thermostat & you are good to go.....the brand I have is Williams. I have had/tried kerosene, electric, & propane  |
Modine Hot Dog
I put an HD30 in my two car when the Camaro came home in 2009. Awesome heater. Very econimical, all-around. Easy to bump the thermostat on an afternoon I have a project. Heats up in 15 minutes from 50 to 70 when its single digits outside.
The trick is to no go too big. Most people do. You WANT the heater to run long enough to dry the condensation in itself or it starts to build up and you will find all your toys and tools sitting with sweat on them. http://www.modine.com/v2portal/page/...ontent_014.htm |
