Prototype Penske shocks are in for our 2010
 

New struts for the 2010 SS showed up today.. these are serial number 1 and the only set on the planet..

Eventually they want to make it so you can use existing drop springs but the perches aren't out yet. If you notice the ride heigth is not set with the spring but with the body of the shock. They also have some new sort of trick valving inside. I will know more when I interview the engineer on Monday at our track test. The car will be our 600+ blown 416 silver CP/28 project car.

We will be installing them tomorrow at Global West (along with my '68 Camaro's 'Bad Penny" new shocks) and testing them Monday at the track with an engineer from Penske they are flying out.

Anyways, they are simply bad ass. Right now they are single adjustable but reservoirs can be added to the top to make them double adjustable and they can also be made three-way adjustable.

Penske stuff is top of the line stuff, so I dont think these coil overs will be any different. One of the best coil over companies in the market today.

I will post something tonight.. they actually have remote reservoirs and utilize the OEM frame mount.

Aw man, I thought they were shock, shocks! Not coil overs!

My old Gen3 had a set of adjustable Tokicos at stock height which made a huge improvement for auto-crossing. I'm hoping for the same on the Gen5's.

SICCCKKK! For the money Penske was all I'd use for my track motorcycles. Their support has always been pretty good too.

I know.. I'm trying to talk Penske into just making some replacement struts.. I can't believe there are still none on the market.

These could be, but they have to finish the rear mount that would accept a factory style "beehive" shaped huge ass spring.

Then again, what are you really saving? These 2.5" springs are pretty cheap.

Yes, they've been great to work with.

And since these are prototypes we did run into an issue on the rears.. the fronts fit great though.

Parts are being overnighted so we can make the change and finish the install Sunday.

Track testing is still set for Monday.

I was pretty surprised that replacement performance struts aren't available as well. Speaking to Sam Strano, he brought up a good point that no one complains about how heavy the BMW's are but they don't feel like they are. Alot has to do with the valving of the Sachs dampeners on them.

A set of Koni replacements and his springs made my 3rd Gen Camaro handle way better than I expected. Well under a price of coil overs for that car and I just didn't see the need for coilovers for a car that used as a daily driver.

Definitely good to see a player like Penske coming out with dampeners for the Camaros though. Any estimate on what these coilovers will run for?

I will ask them on Monday.. I imagine they will be in line with other manufactures. Also, there will be a price for single and double adjustables.

I will also ask about the mounts to use stock style springs, although that wouldn't save you very much cash.

I do like how these use the stock upper mounts and how the fronts adjust by the body and not the spring perch.
